G3 Runs slow, even on my Very Highend Computer
Well I would like to say I'm very dissapointed at G3, at least graphics and requirements wise.
Here are my PC's specs:
Athlon 64 3200
1Gb 400 mhz giel ram
ATI x800 PE 256 mb card
Via Kt800 based mother board
At 1024x768x32bit color with 2x antiAliasing, terrain set to 50 and trees set to 15 (rest of the settings set to highest); I get about 25-35 fps on average.
This is absurd, on half-life2, I can run 1280x1024x32 with 4x AA and 8x Anistropy with all the effects turned up to the max and get a constant 60 fps!
I'm sorry to say but G3's graphics engine is very badly designed and needs to be omptimized heavily, I have a highend system, beyond the reccomended specs and I'm still getting lackluster performance.

A similar thread can be found at:

There was some discussion as to whether the slowdown was caused by spyware removers. That thread might give you a few answers.

I get 70-100FPS at 1600x1200x32 w/2xAA with my computer.
I have a Athlon FX-55 and ATi X800 XT PE. It seems as though there is something going on with your computer, not G3.

Your system is fine. As a gamer myself I know a bad graphics engine when I see one, and G3 has about the worst. I have HL 2, and Far Cry that both have stiff requirements, but run fine on my gaming machine. G3's graphics engine was just poorly done.

While I agree that G3 has a very demanding graphics engine, the fps that Discowings is seeing are about half of what I would expect him to get with those settings on his hardware. I have similar hardware specs and am making out much better.
Discowings, make sure you have the latest ATI Catalyst drivers (5.6). Try playing with some of the performance settings in the Catalyst Control Center.
I'm not sure what's happening in your specific hardware environment, but if all else fails, turn shadows down to High or Medium. Shadows seem to cause a pretty big performance hit, and I'm not sure you would notice much of a difference on screen.
