I've been hoping for this. It runs great so far, and that's even on my work laptop. I'm sure it would be even better on my home pc. I haven't flown yet, heck, I haven't even built my plane, so I'm hoping to use this as training(I will have an instructor, this is for inside time). I just hope I get a little extra cash come Sunday, and I'll be getting it soon after. Thanks a lot for the demo.

The demo is designed to give potential customers a chance to try out a
limited version of the software and ensure that it operates sufficiently on
their machine.

Unfortunately, there wasn't sufficient time to support joysticks and third
party controllers for this release. We'll definitely consider this for any
future releases of the demo though.

I just tried it out, really nice graphics. I was a little surprised that my computer (2.4ghz, 512k, 256k Radeon 3D) played it just a little bit jerky. I would have liked to have been able to reduce the video preferences in the demo to make sure my computer could handle it at a reduced level.

That's kinda odd. I have 1.4 Ghz Pentium 4, Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600, 256 Ram and mine was running at a consistent 55 fps. I'm glad this demo came out, because I finally know at least the Photofields will work.

I found that I could turn off shadows, with that done I got 118fps, very smooth and easy to use.

Well, in that case its possible that your video card has a problem with the the shadows themselves. Because your PC is more than enough compared to mine.

I am very dissapointed in my video card if that is the case. It is a 256k Radeon 9600, supposedly one of the highest end units.

Well, that is wierd, because that is a good card. I installed the demo on my laptop with a mobility Radeon 7500 and a 2.4 Ghz processor and 512 RAM and it works perfectly at 45 fps with shadows and paticles enabled.

Default RE: RealFlight G3 Demonstration Software

Hey guys,

Does anyone know whether installing the demo will overwrite any of the current G2 folders? or does it create new folders when it installs? I know from all previous upgrades from RealFlight Classic to RF Deluxe to RFG2 to RFG2 with Interlink the program was always in: C:\Program Files\RealFlight folder with no designation of the version.

I've held off buying G3 until after the importer is released and don't want trying the demo out to screw up G2. I guess I can just specify the install destination folder. Any hints?

Lou

Just to let you know (and I am sure most of you do) G3 is not compatable with G2 for online play.

I do not have G2, but my demo installed in a new directory, which is C:/Program Files/RealFlight G3 Demo. So from my guess, it won't interfere at all/

I just flew the demo and it seems cool. I am hoping to get G3 for Christmas this year, but if I don't, I probably go buy Aerofly. Either one will suit my needs as I am a quasi beginner and need lots of stick time!

I did get it to fly fine with my system which I am surprised since I have a Geforce 4200 ti and 2.0ghz Athlon. Since you limited to how much you can change paramters such as smoke, it is not a full picture. I did notice ground taxiing (on grass) seemed a little smooth. Also, how any non-Great Planes aircraft are available as downloads?

What untility did some of you use to read frame rate?

While ingame during G3, at the menu's at the top, go the the View Menu. There is a Gadgets sub-menu. Then there is a NavGuide. Click on that. It shows a lot of info and displays your FPS in it.

Takes some getting used to but the demo is pretty cool, I cant wait until sunday (when I get to unwrap my very own G3 and.........well......use it.) Not an easy demo to use if you only get to use the keyboard. You can see the frame rate in the utility box, 77fpm with the shadows turned off. Sometimes it hits 120 but the average seems to be around 95.

Thanks for hints on the frame rate. I do hope people start making non-Great Planes aircraft for G3.

I recieved my G3 package from Santa today!!! We are at the inlaws but I have been playing with it on my wifes laptop. It plays great (even though it said it wouldnt run at all with her graphics card). I doubt there will ever be any custom made (non Realflight add-on) airplanes ala FMS.
