Default Once and for ALL-AFPD,Reflex

Ive been using AFPD for almost a year.Started out as a winter substitute for the real thing and to get my thumbs back after a 12 year layoff.Started in RC flying in 1990 flying Kyosho 30 and 60 size choppers.I Fly only full body scale machines.Well,in messing around with AFPD,I started getting REALLY into airplanes-now I have a slow stik,P51 PTS,and building a GP Hawk P6e and a H9Corsair-both gas.
I ve been told that AFPD is the absolute best sim for choppers and Reflex is the very best sim for airplanes.I have my own opinions but I want to get feedback from people with HANDS ON EXPERIENCE.
Please,dont tell me,"I read that",or "I know a guy",or "I heard"..........
I want feedback from USERS of these two sims
THanks in advance

I own all the"big sims". G3....not impressed. AFPD...Loved it for a long time, especially over G3. Then I got turned onto Reflex by a friend. Absolutely the best hands down. I never thought of getting it because of all the people who talked about AFPD and G3. After playing my buddies, I got it and haven't looked back. I realized that all the people who were saying that a certain sim was "the best" were people who owned "that" sim trying to justify their 200 bucks spent. Reflex is by FAR the best sim for heli's and in my opinion the better plane sim. AFPD makes it WAY to easy to do every maneuver in the book. I wasn't getting better at the field (but I looked great in the sim). Reflex makes it tougher and in turn makes me a better "real" pilot.

Cheers, Seth

It's gone in cycles. Right now I'm more into the planks (Since the evolution of 3D). When I got Reflex I was more into flying heli's. I'm a better plane pilot than a chopper pilot . I've been flying for about 25 years and I've done a little bit of everything.

One thing I will say for AFPD and G3 over Reflex is more features ( Ballon popping, chase views, online play etc..) Most are just gimicy in my opinion and aren't making you a better pilot. I think "gamers" will have more fun with either of those, But from just a serious, not to many frills "simulator" I believe Reflex can make you a better "real world" piot.

Ok, I own AFPD and I'm telling you right now, Aerofly Professional Deluxe has the best physics for airplanes, although, after using G3, I believe that its better for hellis.... but I have never flown hellis in real life, but for some reason they feel more correct in g3, I think that the hellis in afpd just need to be tweaked a little more. Also, hands down, AFPD has better graphics. Lastly, G3 has good graphics as well, they have extensive editing options for the planes/hellis as well, I mean everything from how big your fuel tank is to the maximum to the position of the smoke... its all in their. Oh yeah G3 has multiplayer, so thats a plus. Whatever your choice is, you will not be dissapointed. I use G3 for playing with friends, and AFPD for intense flying.

Oh, Well if your telling us "right now" then it must be true.....AFPD it is. So funny. Fly em all Joe, Make up your own mind. Those guys are the reason I bought AFPD and G3 and missed out on Reflex. It's kinda like asking "what car should I buy, a Chevy or Ford?". Could you imagine the opinions there? But who wold actually be right? You would test drive the cars and pick for yourself. I feel confident in my opinion because I have them all and have for some time. I have extensive backgrounds in simulation and RC, and would still lean towards Reflex. Even though the next guy to post will "tell us right NOW, that the best physics are G3".

I knew this would start something but I like to gather all the info available. My opinion is that AFPD helped me immensely in airplane FLYING,it was almost useless in take-off and landings since it doesnt feed in torque on take offs and it makes landing MUCH easier than they really are.
As for choppers, only the EC135Bscale heli flew like any chopper Ive ever flown, but, keep in mind that I fly SCALE,not 3d.

Flown all... all around favorite for me is AFPD...the planes are floaty... but if you increase sim speed and add a bit of weight to the planes.. they are very true...
Heli's are nice too.... Reflex may be just a bit better for Heli's though.......
G3? it is a nice video game with many fun features......

Interesting-could you please explain what you mean by "increase sim speed"?

What he means is speeding up the simulation by tiny increments until it feels the right speed for you. It can make it feel a little more "hairy". You can also speed up and slow down the simulation in Reflex. Although you wont need to. The planes aren't floaty unless you download some really bad ones off of rc-sim. You can also slow down the sim in Reflex (and others) to really dial in your maneuvers for both planks and heli's.

Those particular photos you posted do look pretty good. I don't want to get into a pi$$ing contest, but those photos I posted are old (I've had them forever), I will post some updated pictures when I get a chance (just so people can see the difference).

Obviously with Reflex and AFPD it's not even a tossup to whom has better graphics, they have the same technology. It comes down to who has the better camera to shoot the background and who can model the better looking plane. However, in the 3D worlds AFPD takes it by a landslide. AFPD graphics shown below.

Now simulators main objective is to give the most accurate feel, this is where AFPD takes it in a landslide. Obviously they are both good enough to please the eye, but AFPD figured out how to translate real world physics into a software program and Reflex is far behind. They say Reflex has better heli physics, although I own both I guess I'm just not good enough heli pilot to feel it. But in airplanes Reflex is on the same level as G3.

Also AFPD has a TON more features and more then twice as many free planes to download. If your wondering why AFPD has the most downloads, it's simple, the modelers know where to spend their time to make sure their planes fly the most accurate. Anyhow ... if you are deciding between the 2 take AFPD, unless you want helis, then it's a toss up. Make sure you buy it from Ikarus direct as they have the best and only support now.

By the way if you have AFPD you have to dload this mountain scene, it's AWESEOME! Best one ever, it's fully mapped for collision, I mean FULLY mapped too, all mountains and everything.

No, I "ain't" marketing my favorite sim. I always believed in what I sold, because it is the best like every poll has shown and every other "mass" of audience would agree.

Go on any forum and start a poll on which sim is the best PHYSICS and AFPD will win every time.
