Default FSOne and Saitek X45? A little help, please

Hi all! I just love the FSone program, truly amazing! I have it running here in the lab on a high-end PC with the new G80 NVIDIA graphics. Its running 5 recordings at the same time with full graphics enhancements and maximum quality settings and is still knocking down over 60 FPS from any view!! Totally smooth and waaaayyy cooolll!!

Please offer me some help to get my Saitek X45 controller working with this awesome program! I have been fumbling with it, but the program does not respond to the stick movement (X,Y, and Z axis all not responding, same for all buttons, hats, and slider).

But, the X45 is working perfectly in the Windows Control Panel settings, and of course it works with other games. Do I need to tweak the OPTIONS.TXT file?

Thanks in advance the help!

The Saitek might match the MS SideWinder or Logitech mapping. I suggest
that you try both of these to see if it works. The steps:

[1] Plug in the joystick, and have the TacCon plugged in at the same
time.

[2] Start FS One.

[3] Go to Options and in the first menu item, turn off autoload
controller. Now it will not automatically pick the TacCon Tx setup
each time you pick a plane. You will have to pick the Tx manually
according to which plane you want to fly and which controller you're
using.

[4] Pick a plane.

[5] Then click on "Select Interface" on the fly page next to the Tx.
Pick the Saitek controller that you want to use. Now it will stay
this way until you pick a different controller, e.g. if you want to
go back to the Hangar9 TacCon, you have to go back and pick that
one.

[6] Click on the Tx and then go to the category w/ the MS SideWinder
Tx's. Pick the one for your plane and try it. You can click on the
Flight Manual for the plane to see how the controls are setup for
the MS SideWinder joystick.

[7] If all works correctly, then the axis mapping for the Saitek matches
the MS SideWinder. Good.

[8] If things are not right, then try the Logitech joystick.

[9] If neither of these work, let me know and I can outline how to
change the axis assignments. The jest of things will be similar
to the Futaba 4-channel outline here:
http://inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/index.html#Q1027-FS1

Glad you're having fun w/ it! Sounds like you have a nice setup - new
graphics cards and all!

THANKS!! I GOT IT WORKING!!

BUT!! Gads, its as complex as all hell!

It took me a few minutes of fiddling to get the first twitch from my X45 to show in FSOne.

Then, it took about an hour to figure out how to get Throttle, Elevators, Rudder working on just one plane.

Then, it took another hour to get the two Aileron channels working well enough to fly. GADS!!!

I was really stuck on the dynamic activation of all these diffent mixing and modes stuff. The non-linear response option is very helpful though.

Then, I tried to choose another vehicle, this time the CX heli, and the setup was useless!

After another hour, I had that set up well enough to fly. COOL! By this time, I made several 'copies' of my different control setups, and can see I have to make one for each vehicle I want to fly. Lotta work! But fun.

Then, I chose the Jet copter. After almost ANOTHER hour, I had that flying smoothly, but I had to delete all the mixing / mode stuff to get it to work well enough to fly.

There are still quirks with the setup:

1. Problem - If I give too much forward cyclic, it acts like I hit the "Instant Right" button (heli on the ground, level and ready).

2. Quirk - The intial control mode says "Stunt 1", but if I give it really hard right cyclic, it auto switches to "Normal" Mode.

Any tips, tutorials, helpful screenshots will go a long way, Thanks again!

I have a small question for ya. What is the purpose of using the X45? I have one and love it, but I see no purpose for it in RC flight sims.

The answer to that is because its FUN!

I have a game demo station here in my lab and its nice to have different controllers to pick from, especially for multi-player.

The technical challenge of getting it working properly has been enjoyable, and will be until I get everything 'just right'.

Another answer is that currently, I have no RC vehicles of any kind, and don't need this program as a 'trainer'. Its purely for entertainment, and to marvel at the techincal accuracy of the flight modeling. I have always loved flight sims, particularly for helicopters, and this one is the cream of the crop so far, despite not having all the bells and combat whistles of Jane's Longbow 2.

I tried this with my FMS connector and It works. but I have to set each controller up and change all the directions and channels on the servos and all. I have had problems with the throttle on the Funtana it does not work at all.
