Default Blade CX2 unrealistic behavior in FS One Sim vs RealFlight

Hey RC'ers,

I'm very new to the hobby and I have an E-flite Blade CX2 helicopter. It's been very easy to fly in real life although outdoor performance is limited to under 2mph of wind due to light weight and lack of power to fight the wind. I wanted to get better and possibly move onto a more advanced helicopter or a plane but I am concerned with repair costs and crashing which is inevitable. So I picked up the FS One Simulator and I've been happy with it so far overall. I also had a chance to try out the RealFlight simulator at the LHS as well. I tried the CX2 on both and both have elements of unrealistic flight. Overall, the RealFlight CX2 seems closer to reality.

In RealFlight: The CX2 performs realistically when it comes to the cyclic and collective controls when commands are issued on a single dimension. The directional flight and speed is accurate, and the stability of the dual-rotor design is approximated very closely. I only found two unrealistic attributes. First, the CX2 actually has more lift power and throttle response than in the sim, and secondly and most importantly, when you issue a quick cyclic command change from say, left to right, or forward to backwards, the heli loses lift significantly in RL and will lose elevation quickly. In the sim, it stays really level leading to a false sense of confidence. The number one way to crash the CX2 or to get a mid-air blade strike is the quick opposing-cyclic move in RL.

In FS One: The CX2 performs way better than it does in RL. I think the sim gives the CX2 too much authority and responsiveness-- it has a lot of power to tip itself over, e.g. a full forward stick will tip the heli vertically nose down and crash it. But in RL, a full stick forward on the cyclic will only get it to move at walking speed if there is no wind, and there is not enough power to tip the helicopter like that in RL. That applies to all the other dimensions of movement too. Being a beginner helicopter, the CX2 auto-stabilizes very well in real life but in the sim, it behaves more like an advanced 3D chopper. In RL, you can let go of all the sticks and provided you have some throttle, the heli will hover on its own very evenly. You can actually take both hands off the controller and put it on the ground, the heli will stay in one place in the absence of wind. How do I modify the parameters to get it to behave more realistically, as in, more auto-stabilizing and less ability to tip itself over?

So, with that said, here are some questions that hopefully the community can help with, thanks in advance!

1) Anyone know how to modify the CX2 parameters in FS One so it flies much more realistically? Is there an appropriate parameter to adjust so it takes into account the very strong fly-bar stabilizing action or balance factors so that the CX2 cannot tip itself over in the air?

2) How do you get rid of the knob-throttle effect when on the TacCon it seems the knob acts like a gain on the throttle? I have to reset it often by turning the knob until the blades start moving, then turning it down a notch to 'rest'.

Thanks everyone, and looking forward to many more posts detailing lessons learned from starting in the hobby on the CX2 and experience with the FS one.

Apparently if I adjust the parameters by editing an aircraft, the sim will load then crash to desktop. Sweet.

If interested, I customized CX2 in Clearview; and it does fly quite well like in RL.

Would you be so kind as to share that with everyone. That's sort of what forums are all about. It's kind to offer private counseling but it's kinder still to let everyone in on the information.

The new patched FS One has a better version of the CX2 but it's still not realistic. On the bright side, the CX2 is so easy to fly and stable you don't really need to Sim it up. : )

Sure... I'm sorry!

Easiest way: here is the params.txt content...
You have to switch off "Idle Up" to fly.
Mine has lower rotor broken tonight and I fly with Clearview... I can say it's quite good like that! ;-)

Default RE: Blade CX2 unrealistic behavior in FS One Sim vs RealFlight

I'm not sure how the CX2 flies, as I've never flown a real one.

However, the CP and CP Pro are a joke in FS One. They are more stable than the T-Rex 450 SA that is in the Hanger 1 expansion pack. Is Hanger 9 trying to sell more Blades?

The more I use FS One, the less I like it. The various patches appear to fix nothing. This is one product I would not recommend to anyone, unless the developers work on fixing its many flaws.

How are you flying the CX2 in FS One? Did you buy the Hangar Pack? I only see the Original CX even with all the latest updates.
