just downloaded FMS free s w
Ok, I've got it flying now. The only problem now is I can't get it to throttle down enough to land. When you initialise it starts with enough throttle to take off and fly slow flight. But it wont land. Any suggestions?

If you like that software, go to www.realitycraft.com and download their dogfight rc software located at the second screen after you click on the sim/game tab. You can do combat flying with the fms sim controller and rack up points, planes and other bonuses.

I'm in joystick interface. None of the others (interface choices) does anything at all. Hitting B does nothing.

The controllers all show up as a windows game controller (joystick). The RC controllers don't haave any buttons to push, just sticks.
Do a calibration. Note thatthe plane will keep going even after the throttle is shut off. How fast and how long depends on the plane. Some glide pretty good, others drop like a brick.

You can take off the runway and fly slow flight at zero throttle. Therefore it will not land. I'm trying to figure out a way to run it out of gas, at least I can dead stick it. I couldn't find any furthur calibration than I already did. There are only two planes that will fly; a pitts and a suhkoi, neither of which has a good glide ratio. Maybe I should uninstall and try a different version?

Forget that last post. Ok, I calibrated in windows but still can't get idle. Funny, the computer indicater slider thingey indicated I had fixed the problem but the planes fly the same.

dbcisco, I finally got it working right. It was a calibration problem. But back to the question you asked in another thread about why I thought FMS free sw was useless; I couldn't remember because I had uninstalled it a year ago. Well, I reinstalled it to figure out why I hated it. Now it's all coming back to me. (1)The ailerons on the transall don't work(2)the only two flyable planes are so unstable and squirrely that they're downright aggravating. I'm amazed anybody could learn to fly with that software.

Arnold,
Are you talking about two different softwares?
FMS was helpful to me, and all the models were flyable.
The "B" key is to throttle back to zero when using the keyboard.
For the Joystick, a half throttle is the default if no channel is assigned to it; which I believe has been the problem you have experienced.
You can find some additional models for free download here:

RE: just downloaded FMS free s w
lnewqban, I downloaded the latest version I could find, which was 2.0 alpha 8.5. I would like to know what other people are talking about when thy say FMS free is doable. I can't find any other versions. I just tried to fly it again using the chase view. It was like trying to fly an underpowered, too heavy airplane with hardly any flight charactaristics. (except bad ones). I'm a good flyer (on sims) but I'm only able to land on the runway without cracking up maybe two out of ten times. 20%. Would somebody please tell me what version that actually works. There are four planes; one is a unpowered glider, one is a transall (on which the ailerons don't work, rendering it unflyable) which leaves only two (powered) flyable planes. Then there are two helis, I don't do helis

That is weird.
FMS is no match for more advanced simulators, like FS One (my second sim), but it is decent enough for a beginner to learn the basics, which I did three years ago (probably an older version).
Where did you download yours from?
Also check the models of my link above, some of them, like the Extras, fly pretty well.
If you would come by West Palm, we could meet and I could show you how it works in my computer, for you to compare.

RE: just downloaded FMS free s w
For your version of FMS, look for the models listed under Hangar 8.
Then, the next page will show the models; click on "download".
It will download a ZIP file fro each model that you select, which needs to be extracted to the "Models" folder of FMS.

It sounds complicated, but it is not; just follow my directions:
Your computer may have WinZip installed, which is a compressing-decompressing software.
If not, you can download a free 45 days trial from here:
http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm
Just click on “Download WinZip Now”, and download the software to Programs.
Then, you will have the Zip files of one or some models, and the WinZip program.
Double click on one of the downloaded model Zip files, and a WinZip window should open.
Click on “Extract”.
When prompted, “Extract to”, click on the icon on the right side and search and select the folder “Models” of the FMS program in the list.
Then, when you open FMS next, the new model should appear in the Model pull down list.
In order to improve models that fall like bricks, just trim the elevator in your radio for that model for a gentle glide during idle.

Dont think the transall has ailerons and steers off rudder.
I use a futaba 7c and had to configure the rudder to the aileron right hand stick on the fms config.
Hang in there and you will get flying, its a good free software for learning basics.

Yes, FMS usually models real remote control (RC) airplanes. The real Transall park flyer was an underpowered 3 channel airplane. It is now extremely old as FMS 2 alpha 8.5 is about 6 years old. That is very long in RC and software years. You do copy all the files within a .zip file to the C:\ Program Files\ FMS\ Model\ directory.
There are several FMS 2.8 models on [link=http://gunnerson.homestead.com/files/fms_models.htm]my website[/link] and I am told they fly quite realistically. Try the ParkZone airplanes SuperCub and the T-28.
Also, with your controller, make sure you calibrate within FMS and I recommend checking the EXP (exponential) box for ailerons and usually for rudder. Otherwise, yes, you will be all over the sky and into the ground.
