Rudder Issue with Phoenix Flight Sim Flying Super Cub S Using DX5e
 

EDIT: Problem solved by this email from Phoenix's support staff, who responded very quickly to my query:

"Please can you recalibrate and this time move ALL sticks to their extents when prompted.

"The reason for this is that by default this model may have the aileron & rudder channels swapped, as this is the most common setup used when flying a model with no ailerons."

I'm using the Phoenix flight sim program (updated to 5.0 v yesterday) to practice flying Hobby Zone's Super Cub S, which I received for Christmas as my first RC plane.

The plane uses a rudder and no ailerons, so I've set up my DX5e to simulate that. I have both elevators and rudder on the right control and throttle on the left control because that seemed easier than throttle and rudder on the same control.

I have the Phoenix program on two computers, and on both of them if I calibrate the transmitter the normal way, I get a lot of right rudder but virtually no left rudder when I move the stick. So, the plane can only make right turns.

On one computer, I fiddled with the rudder settings during the calibration and finally hit upon a way that fixed the problem so that the rudder works both directions. But I did so much fiddling that I don't remember which combination worked, and I haven't been able to duplicate the fix on the other computer.

The fiddling involved moving the rudder bar off center at some point in the calibration process. Is there another, simpler way? Or can anyone tell me how to do it using the method that worked once for me?

I began by making sure the digital trims for all the controls are centered on my DX5e transmitter. For the video, I started fresh in Phoenix with "Set Up New Transmitter."

During the calibration process, I moved the throttle, rudder, and elevator controls as instructed. But I did not move left or right the stick that controls the ailerons since the plane I'm flying does not have ailerons.

The rudder is bar number 2. It is centered when the stick is centered and moves all the way both directions from the center.

I then turned on and off the two switches, as instructed.

In the air, the plane turns to the right with right rudder. The best that can be done with extreme left rudder control is to hold the wings level. When the plane is landing, the rudder stick is all the way to the left.

Nothing allows the plane to turn or bank to the left.
