Default Air Brake Deicer????

I've called every fuel dealer and hardware store in about 100 mi radius here in up state NY. No methanol and and mostly they don't know what I'm talking about except VP @ $55/5gal...just wondering if anybody has tried air brake antifreeze which I believe is "pure" methanol but no guaranteed assay...I can get that for about $7.50/gal shipped from Ryder...

Look at the MSDS for the specific product you’re looking to use. That will tell you exactly what is in it.

Did that..it says 98% methanol....not exactly confidence inspiring purity wise.. Specific gravity of 0.7925 and methanol SG is usually stated as 0.7915 or as density 792 kg/m^3....not exactly certified lab grade so the question is how tolerant are glow engines..reckon the thing to do is brew some and try it..

It can’t hurt to try it. 2% water content (if that’s what it is) can be combatted somewhat with a little acetone. Try 1% acetone.

OK, I will definitely do that ..thanks for the input..just a note I've seen CRC air brake conditioner listed for anywhere from $5.12 to $24.95 /gal...exact same Mfr. number..I think some folks are making a buck or two on this...
