Default Dry Nitrogen Purge of Fuel Can

Has anyone ever considered purging their fuel cans with dry nitrogen to displace moist ambient air? Am I missing something here?

Probably just the complication of doing it. It would certainly work fine but it's not really necessary if the can isn't open for any longer than necessary. You could even do it by dropping in a small piece of dry ice (CO2) but I'd wait until it stopped bubbling before tightening the cap

The air in the headspace won't do any harm. In theory, if the air is very humid this moisture will be absorbed into the fuel and you might eventually get enough moisture to damage the fuel. As long as you heep the fuel container tightly closed and only open it to fuel up, there should be no need to purge the container - the amount of moisture in the air is insufficient to cause problems. I am assuming you are talking about a container with a capacity of a gallon or less. The situation could be different in a very large container (or drum) of fuel.
