Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
Is there a difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel other than the nitro content? Where is a good place to get powermaster fuel?
|
RE: Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
It depends. "Some" four stroke fuels have low oil content while others do not.
Fuels should be evaluated on > Oil content (percentage) > Oil type (castor, Synthetic, blend) > Nitro content (percentage) They should never be evaluated on "marketing" terms such as > Four stroke > Premium > Super > etc The best place to get any brand of fuel is usually a local hobby shop. Having it shipped can be very expensive. |

Ditto, some four stroke fuels have as little as 14% oil content. This will work as long as your ring gap isn't plugged with dirt. More oil would be safer.

RE: Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
I just bought a Magnum .46 2 stroke and a Magnum .52 4 stroke. The 4 stroke calls for Power master 15% fuel while the 2 stroke calls for Power master 10% for break in and 15% for normal use. So can I get PowerMaster 15% once everything is broke in and use it on both engines?

RE: Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
I use 15% nitro in two and four stroke because I only want one fuel and my four strokes run better on 15% than 10%. I don't notice much difference with the two strokes. I've used Powermaster, Wildcat, Ritch's Brew, and others and they all run about the same.

Should i use a fuel using all castor oil or some blend .
|
RE: Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
That is a debate that will never end. I mostly use fuels with a synthetic/castor blend. Sometimes I use all synthetic.

I just talked to the guy from S+W fuel and he recomends not using any castor in 4 strokes it causes to much carbon build up? He said that their 4 cycle blend is all synthetic and will work well in both my 2 and 4 stroke but the instructions that came with my Magnum engines say to use castor?

Stan at S&W used to recommend 2% castor with 18% synthetic for 4-stroke engines. The 2% castor was supposed to be enough to provide the benefits of castor without producing too much carbon and gunk.
Lately S&W has been selling different synthetic lubricants (European?) for car glow engines. The new lubricants are claimed to be better than the traditional synthetic lube. I wonder if S&W's 4-stroke fuel now contains the improved lubricants. |

My O.S. recommends 2 stroke with 18% oil for the Surpass .52 4 stroke. I wonder why

The online manual http://manuals.hobbico.com/osm/fs-52s-manual.pdf just lists the oil requirement. I did not see a reference to "two stroke" fuel.
They say to run Castor, Synthetic, or a blend of the two. If a lot of castor is used there can be deposits on rings and valves that need to be cleaned on occasion. Some people like doing that kind of project, others do not. It really is just a personal preference. |

I will need to pull out the manual on it, it doesnt look like the one you posted.

RE: Difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke fuel?
My opinion is there is no such thing as two stroke fuel or four stroke fuel. Years ago fuel labeled 'four stroke' had very low oil content but that does not seem to be true now.
The fuel companies keep using the terms but many times the fuels are identical regardless of the descriptive words on the label. There are fuels with many different oiling packages (type and percent) and we need to decide what we want to run based on the ingredients rather than the descriptive words. |
