I wish they made a "true" 10hp continuous brushless motor for 8s use of about 750ish kv
I have two of the Castle 2028 motors that are "rated" 10hp but that's only peak, and constant is about 6hp in a boat
this why our brushless big hydros don't stand up to the mod gas motors in NAMBA racing right now, for they have 7.5hp and up!
so gas is where I will stand in that class for now, till I find the right electric motor....
but back to this Gas HP thread

would you explain how gas can keep up with this? mind you that this is a 8 foot boat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U76JhjZROU
Agian you post a video of something I am not talking of..
in fact it is not "legal" to race in the class I keep wanting to build!
you brag about illegal builds for the class I am wanting to race in ahhhahahahhhahah
I will say this again
I "want" to build a "legal" gas size single brushless hydro on 8s 10,0000mah with about 750ish kv to run gas size props for 6+ laps...........
nothing you have posted shows what I am talking about to race what I need
show me what I am talking about then and only then do you have a valid argument!
in other words back it up.. you cannot back it up
and after watching that video I bet big money he could not survive a 6 laps heat 4 times on Sunday with our gas Hydros

By the way they make your motor to run on 8s. I run it in my 5th scale truck It's the Beast X524 2Y 910kv motor. If you put a blindfold on and put both in your hand you couldn't tell the difference.
the color of the can is the only thing to tell them apart. Even the inside other than the 2y winding to get 910kv. but if your looking for the right motor for your boat that will do the laps you need and the power you want to run faster than anyone on the lake you will need TP power 5850 series to do so. I know that brushless isn't in your class because it is in a class by it's self and have a much unfair advantage. Brushless isn't cheap, but it is the fastest thing you can put in the water period. I would run a 5850 in my 1/5 scale truck but the drivetrain will not take the power that it makes and so it is not needed. I would like to have a pair for my 1400 Genesis though.

This is my lay out for my 56'' hydro (cat) that runs on a pair of SSS5694 1200kv running on 8s through 280 amp flier esc's the prop are stainless 1755/3 props. If this is to big for the class I have a 42'' that runs on a pair of TP4050 3Y 2220kv on 6s that uses magnesium X945/2 props with 180 amp esc's that will do the job. I'll even use a standing start to make it fair.

If money is no object get the [h=2]Lehner 2260 Brushless Motor[/h]
It cost $484.07 and change to the TP Power $185.00 and performance isn't much difference. Esc's and lipo's for these motors will set yo back though!
So there you go. Your looking for a 56 series or larger motor and about 1000 to 1200 kv. To be a good 8s motor that makes well over 10 hp.

Brushless isn't cheap.

this whole post is wrong
first a catamaran is "NOT" a Hydro and would not be allowed to race with the true "Hydros"
second you say their is no brushless in our classes when in fact we run them! (you run your mouth without true facts)
and third I am "wanting to build a brushless Hydro to race this year against the gas hydros!
and the TP motors are very much "over rated" !!!!!
and last you say brusless isnt cheap like that keeps racers away? have your priced our gas motors? din't think so cuz they cost more than those over rated tp electrics
you still have yet to show me a "real" working constant "single" 10hp (not peak hp) brushless motor and esc to run on 8s with about 750-800kv so I can run gas size props to race in my Hydro that will beat the Mod gas motors they run now
you make comments on this forum and others like we don't know a thing about brushless and that is so wrong....
plus you always post the same pictures all over the web of your "twin" motored boats to run against single gas motored boats............. yeah ok like you need twins to beat our gas hydros I get it... you need two motors to get it done....
"Run your boat not your mouth"
I'm done with this non sense and want to get back to the OP of this thread and thats GAS HP!
I want a new motor for my Baja 5b and the 38cc looks great!

I do my own filming it works better. It's funny you say there over rated. the videos I shown you have the tp5850 motors in them and in fact the 96 inch cat that is orange was running the Lehner motors first but got more speed from the tp power.

So with the same boat using different motors that would be a good test. and if you watch all his videos you will see that the boat never looked back when the tp5850 went in. You can pick and choose what ever you like. but I will say this if you have the right system to run these motors you will not get beat period.
Here is the system you should look into.
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...d=hef-HBF1300L
http://www.tppowerusa.com/motors/bui...series/tp-5850
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...i-e041&cat=136
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...-THP53004SP65D you will need at least 4 lipos to run I would think 8 would be best. and a good duel 400 watt lipo charger
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...ger_800W_.html This is the one that I use.
Do you do your own prop work or send it out?

what scale of hydro are you running, I might build one and use these parts a give it a go. I have wanted to do a 1/5 or 1/6 scale hydro.
since I have the charger it would cost me using 4 of the thunderhead liops $1266.45 and buy the hull and hardware.

Right on buddy!
I have a sweet Sony a57 that I'm getting prime lenses for...
shoots awesome video, that looks just like film!
and by the way I have thought about putting this crazy fast 38cc mod motor in the new Losi XL buggy!
I need to fix up some issue with my baja first before putting that thing in, so I might just let that one set and look for a Losi roller to put this gas motor in

Hey guys I have been trolling the net looking for videos of the 29cc SCZ reed motor. Check out this video I found . It has 2 parts . The first part shows a orange and white Losi test truck running on a track with a SCZ reed with a 990 carb , the second part shows the same truck running with the same motor except it has a 1048 carb on it YIKES!!! Here is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H0PqGQhWfc#t=24

If he got an extra one and you got the time it maybe worth trying out . I wonder if it is one of those type of carbs that loads up when the throttle is not wide open?? In boat racing the throttle is mostly wide open.
