Originally i ran an open clutch,
but the clutch shoes would not last more than a tank of fuel in sandy conditions,

so i switched to an enclosed tgn carrier with a t/r one piece gear plate,

never looked at another clutch since,

the ddm cy long life clutch shoes and an hpi red clutch spring work real good together,

some people say that an enclosed clutch builds alot of heat, i have never had any issues since switching to an enclosed system,

also running a hostile 57t plastic spur gear so this may take the heat better than a stock plastic spur,

Enclosed is good for really dirty or sandy conditons, but if your running on-road you dont need it Ive heard really well about the TR enclosed clutch system

the stock baja clutch never really gave me many problems unless i was in really muddy or grassy areas.
The mud and grass would build up arround the clutch bell and some times sticks and such would get cought up on there.

Bought the TR set up a few months ago and love it. its built like a brick and have had no issues with it at all.

An enclosed clutch will only build up heat if you drive by slipping the clutch

Nice thing about the Turtle enclosed system is if you get the enclosed (or the open) and eventually want to switch back to one of them you can:

Open works for me and I run in pretty rough conditions. Shoes are lasting a good amount of time too, so I guess I'll keep the nearly $200 in my pocket for now.

The closed cover is good for any conditions other than grass or street. I never know whan the Arizona dirt is going to eat up the clutch and its very hot out here. I never have a problem with the closed turtle system.

Can you just buy the above mentioned part and enclose the clutch bell or is this just a part of a bigger system?

This is a replacement carrier for TURTLE RACING CLUTCH SYSTEMS ONLY. It will not work if you do not already have a TR clutch system.

The "enclosed" carrier is used on the standard TR clutch system, and the "open" carrier is used on the Race Edition clutch system.

If you already have a TR system, this is a great way change to an open/closed carrier, as you don't have to buy a complete new system!

It's part of a bigger system:

Or for enclosed by itself without the bell/plate/pinion:

I'd get the Turtle system. It's the best out there and it works with the BSW 2 speed.
