My experience (so far) with the King Motor Baja 5b.
I had wanted a 1/5th scale buggy for some time now and had been eying used HPI's for a deal (I spend most of my hobby budget on plane stuff). Not finding much, I decided to go with one of the "new 2011 model" 2.0 King Motor Baja's with the 30.5 cc engine. I found a seller on eBay who had the best prices and got it for $470 shipped to my door. Pre-installed upgrades included the huge wrap-around tuned pipe and 8k RPM clutch.
First impressions were that this thing is huge and that it looked great. All of the plastic (orange in my case) looked great. It came RTR with a 2.4GHz clone radio, which I promptly swapped out for Spektrum gear.
Other than the fact that the needles were set a little lean from the factory, the 30.5cc "clone" runs awesome with gobs of power. It is incredibly loud with the "upgraded" tuba pipe.
I am about three weeks into owning it, and several tanks (and plenty of dirt and jumps) have revealed the following weaknesses:
-The throttle servo went bad after a couple of runs, but it wasn't all that fast or torque-y to begin with anyway. A Hitec 645MG replaced it and it operates the brakes much more effectively.
-The included rear tire foam inserts split width-wise (I had noticed "flat spots" in the rear tire where the foam had separated). I'm not sure what exactly would have caused this. Upon disassembly, I found the foam to be very crumbly.
-After a bunch of runs one of the rear wheel nuts fell off. After tightening the crap out of it, it promptly fell off again. I eventually saw that the inner hexes had rounded out in the rear wheels. I later found out that the HPI wheels have a metal hex insert that the KM wheels do not.
Other than these issues, I am loving this buggy. I replaced the wheels with actual HPI wheels/foams and will likely not ever have to worry about those again. The 30.5cc engine starts on the first pull and is a powerhouse.
I still cannot upload images to RCU (come on guys, fix this!) so here is a FB link to an image of my buggy.

RE: My experience (so far) with the King Motor Baja 5b.
i had the 23cc one awhile back.
i put the clone ddm pipe on it, yhat woke up the motor.
i had around 20 tanks threw it when i sold it.
i never changed the stock electronics. they worked great for me.
the recoil did have some trouble going back in after awhile. had to jiggle it.
the kill switch would stick if you pushed it too hard.
the rear tires i replaced. one of them blew apart over some small sharp rocks. they were noticably thinner than the HPI ones.
the rear upper shock mounts liked to come out. glued those suckers in, and got the rear brace upgrade.
oh, and 1 screw came loose inside the gear cover and took a few teeth off the spur once.
other than that, i had no issues with the buggy. always started easy, had plenty of power.
That price you paid was great! same price i had paid over a year ago for the 23cc version.
my advice, is to check all bolts, screws to make sure they are good an tight! do that and keep it clean after running it and you shouldnt have any major issues.

I am on my second one only because I sold the first one, the first one was a 23cc RTR which ran fine but I really didnt have it long enough to break anything.
The one I have now is a 26cc 2 speed and its a blast to drive, its still in one piece but Im not hard on my cars

Yeah so far you can't beat it for the price. I found a set of HPI SS rims to replace the crappy stock ones for $17 on eBay.

I just bought the ksrc 002 from ebay and it should (better) be here tommorow.
I ordered the outerwears filter for the pull start side of the engine and a killer bee kill switch.
Anything else I should get?

RE: My experience (so far) with the King Motor Baja 5b.
I'm not really sure where to put this question (which thread), but i have a few questions.
One is, which needle is the high speed and which is the low.
Also when I give it gas it takes almost full throttle to get the tires to move and then it
goes. I have only bench tested it so far.
Thanks

What clutch did your car come with? Mine has the 8,000 rpm "race" clutch and the car does not start moving until about 1/3 throttle or so. If you are needing full throttle to get your buggy to move something is not right. With your radio on and the throttle set at neutral (idle) does the buggy roll freely? If not, you may need to adjust the brake.
My buggy was set up properly out of the box and nothing needed adjusting. What do you mean by "clutch gear?"

The small gear and the large gear on the right side of the buggy is what I am concerned about.
When I roll the buggy it makes a clicking noise and is not easily rolled. I checked the brake and
it looks ok.

An easy way to check the clearance is to try and run a small piece of paper between the gears as they turn. If the paper goes through, you're ok. If the paper won't go through the mesh is too tight.

and do they sell optional ratios?

I can't comment on the 2 speed as I have not installed mine yet. But you do get all new gears with it.

Had my KM for over a year and altho it doesn't get that much use its never let me down. Raced it a few months ago at the local large scale club, qualified for the B main and I won all the races that day Beating buggies that cost 3x as much.
Only thing I've busted are the pull starter (not really the cars fault).

You are in for some fun when you install it, its work but its manageable. I have not seen any other gear adjustments but then I never really looked for any

When I hit the brake the buggy stalls. Is there a way to adjust the linkage so the throttle
will not close backward too far?
