Default homemade 1/4 scale shocks

ok so im building up my parts and supplies to build my homemade rc car, im hope to keep the weight at 14kg or even better lower than that.

but my problem is the shocks i dont no what to use i was thinking atv shocks but they are abit to chunky and need alot more weight to compress the shock.

so im hoping someone with some experience in this problem could help any suggestion welcome.

You could use shocks from other rc car and put harder springs, if it is necessary. Or start making yours, homemade.

Most of shocks use more than one spring type.
Firstly start with dimensions (travel, total lenght )you ask for .

ve done a little bit of looking around and cone up with two possible shocks,

these mini moto quad shocks,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1707623969...ht_3845wt_1189

or these hpi traxxus shocks
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2607680787...#ht_2261wt_956

keeping in mind they will be for a ruff 14kg car
unsure if the hpi shocks doubled up will be to feball an the mini moto being to over the top?

you can use the shock on a bicycle that goes from the rear fork to the body of the bike. those don't take much to compress, plus you could throw a softer spring on it.

those cheap mini-quad shocks are fake. no damping... just "spring-holders" ( you need a lighter spring too)

I bought a pair of these $22 hydraulic extension dampers.
Haven't tried on a vehicle yet, but I think they'll be just right.

thanks for the links very useful,

ive managed to to get four gas struts they are 180cm long which is ideal for the size and clearence of my build.

also they are precharged to 10kg and when i add a spring hopefully have a slightly better rating,

so my question is can i get away with leaving them as they are or do i have to release the gas and add damper oil?

Hmmm.....

If your car is 14KG and you're using 4x10KG struts..... probably not.
You'll most likely have to cut and shut them and put some oil in.

But hey, try it first and see how it goes.
If you set them up right it might work.
