Default 25% Oil Mix...Misprint?

I went to start my Redcat 30cc gas engine for the first time with a 4% oil mix in the tank and was shocked to see a sticker on the engine asking for 25% oil. Do they really want it that oily during break-in?

you need 4oz of 2 stroke oil to 1 gal of fuel to make it a 25 to one ratio

Actually, 4oz of oil per gallon is 32:1. For 25:1, you need to put 5.12oz of oil per gallon. I know that this is splitting hairs, but it might might help you engine to run cooler and last longer.

Scott

PS there are 128oz in a gallon

Its not an oily mix if you tune your engine right. My stock 26cc is almost 2 years old using Tanaka at 25-1 ratio. Use less oil and youll be buying a new motor.

do you guys have any issues withe the engine carboning up ( if thats a word) at 25:1. when i run my mixture at 25:1 my 26cc carbons up so bad it wont run any more but has been better since i changed my mixture to 45:1 using av gas and synthetic 2 stroke oil. it got so bad i had to take the motor apart and scrape the carbon off the piston and cylinder head.

Yeah thats a word The whole 25:1 mixture deal is for petroleum oils. Manufacturers recommend that ratio to cover their a s s !!! You can definitely use less oil once to go to high quality, 100% synthetics. I happen to run my mix at 40:1. Havent tried the av gas though. How do you like it compared to pump gas?

Good to know. I was actually going to try Sunoco GT100 race fuel. Been using coleman camp fuel in my boat and used it in the baja as well, but maybe i'll have to get a half gallon of av gas and a half of the race fuel to do a comparison between the two. What oil are you using?

i should have mentioned i guess that my ratio is metric , milliliters to liters works out to be 22.5 ml oil to 1 liter gas i'm not sure what that is in ounces and gallons

Isnt AV gas like 100 octane? Higher octane fuel burns slower than lower octane fuel, I dont see how you can get a power increase from that, other than the lower oil content you are using... High octane is for higher compression ratios, so the fuel doesnt pre-ignite.

Oh, well the stroker or big bore are higher performance kits, and so they probaby would require the higher octane. My sttock 26cc wouldnt see a benefit. I use the 25-1 ratio with a quality oil Tanaka for example, and dont see any oil spewing out like a nitro, or carbonizing too much. I want the extra oil cushion on my needle bearing...
