Are you talking about nitro or gas 2 strokes? With gas any name brand quality 2 cycle oil for aircooled engines mixed to the manufaturers suggested ratio will work. If you're talking about nitro then again what ever your engine manufacturer suggests if you want to stay under warranty. Most commercial brands of nitro fuel will be a combination of syn/castor oil blend. Have'nt burned one up yet following the manufacturers suggestions.

synthetics are far and above superior to mineral oils....anyone who says otherwise has obviously never run synthetics in fullsize vehicles...today's longer intervals between oil changes are 99% down to synthetic oils..example...my dodge cummins with regular oil change every 5000km, with amsoil 14000, with conoco syn blend 10-15000...nuff said

synthetic is much better than non synthetic. Use oil design for 2T motor, not caster oil. If you are really looking for performance use the kart racing 2t. I am using the following one now.

http://www.motul.com/hk/en/products/130

Which is really good. But if you are just looking for normal stuff you can just visit your local motorcycle shop. Ask for 2T oil for motorcycle which will mix with gasoline, it will work perfectly.

The people who say to use non synthetic oil say that synthetic oil does not let the ring in a new motor break in. People who say you should not use caster in your motor say the caster will varnish your motor up. Who is right??

Here we go again another oil thread You will never be more confused in you life. Go with any quality name brand 2 cycle aircooled oil and you will be covered as far as your warranty goes. The rest is just opinions, and we all know what opinions are like....

The manufactor of the motor I own reccomends you use caster based 2 cycle oil to stay under warranty. I understand what you are saying go with the oil the manufactor of your motor reccomends. But I still wonder which is the best oil to go with. Have any of you guys out there who have used synthetic oil and had ring failure??

I'll be honest with you. I've tried the synthetic and non synthetic in chainsaws, and the biggest difference I've noticed is in the amount of smoke from the exhaust and how long the plug goes between cleanings. I personally run a synthetic blend in mine, mostly because it's the exact same mix I run in my chainsaw(which I work the engine hard), right down to the 25:1 with premium gas.

where do they reside...bleedin Bedrock? and i guess Barney and Fred work there too....
synthetics have their polymer chains altered to suit the needs of the given application, no mineral oil can come close to the lubrication/resistance to breakdown that synthetics give...while mineral oils are more than adequate synthetics are superior, some current syntheticss can be mixed as lean as 100:1...try doing that with a regular oil!

I've run belray synthetic since i was a lad in many different 2 stroke applications and never had ring failure

I run Castor927 which of course is a castor based oil and its synthetic. I started running it in 09 at the speed challenge because we couldn't travel with oil and it was the only thing available there. I fell in love with it instantly and haven't looked back. My FG then went 98mph which was a personal best at the time. I've yet to seize a motor with it and life on them is long. We were also running a castor based nitro fuel and our cars were and still are 100+ as well.

Hey NH. I've made a fee more passes and changes but nothing to report on. It's been out away since it doesn't seem that a speed challenge will happen again this year.

Sorry to hear about the speed challenge not happening. I was impressed by your videos of the speed runs you made with your inline twin. I did some updates to my 4wd FG I put a oneway diff on the front replaced the stock single speed tranny with a 2 speed and put a adjustable diff in the rear. The car is really ballistic now!! Because of the oneway on the front end I can dive into the turns without hardly getting off the throttle! This is the fastest best handling parking lot basher I have ever owned.

Here's an interesting blog about oil. I guess you can make your own decision based on it. My mind is already made up.

glad to hear you're loving the FG. I jumped back into nitro and broke my previous record and will continue to push it. As fas as the large scales, I'm happy with the results and feel like the numbers are good enough to be something but won't discuss them. Besides that, I just acquired an HPI baja which I'll be using just to play with.

I know you will be setting new speed records with your Nitro cars. I just hope that the ISC gets their stuff togather and gets someplace to run the USA Speed Challenge. Good Luck with your landspeed attemps.
