Nice paint - looks like you got the decal sheet as well "-)

As far as brake-in - running thru a big mud pit is a very effecient method.

Btw - where is SFV California? - Anyone running in NCAL?

I just ordered one of these off of Ebay. Have you ran it yet? Did you use one or two servos for the steering? I ordered a Futaba FM radio and 2 1/4 servos (one for steering one for throttle). I have been reading and in one forum it said you need 2 for steering so I ordered another one today. I want to have everything I need when it gets here! Where did you get your decals from? I can airbrush but I really love the way you have yours, thats awesome. You can email me [email protected] I would appreciate it! Thanks

Free - no need for 3 servo's - You only need (1) Hitec HS-5745MG and the brake/ throttle (1) Hitec HS-645MG- that's it. All 3 servo's will do is drain your battery faster.

The ones I ordered are Futaba s5301 1/4 high torque like 290oz strength. I also ordered the s5302 for the throttle. These are made by futaba and came from www.towerhobbies.com. Do you have the truck? Can you send me pictures of yours (inside how you have the servos mounted etc..) I have a savage, super nitro rs4 and a Ofna 9.5 violator right now! All is for sale on ebay.

You need 3 servos if you will be fitting front brakes, you can use 2 but 3 is much better....also why would you run one digital servo and one standard?
You need digital servos if you are running radio like the Futaba 3PK with HRS, eg: the Hitec HS-5745MG for steering and Hitec HS-5625MG and/or Hitec HS-5645MG for brakes/throttle.
If you are running radio like the Futaba 3PM, for steering the Hitec HS-805BB Mega 1/4 Scale has more torque than the HS-5745...and its cheaper too.
freemurray, what radio gear are you running?

Default RE: FG BF ready for break-in

servo i installed for steering is just one futaba S5050 digital which is enough and hitec HS-645MG for throttle/brake...as for wiring, when i ordered the MT i also ordered a Graupner direct servo power cable, this cable comes with on/off switch and will make the servos get their power supply direct from the receiver 6v pack. i ordered my receiver pack from cheapbatterypacks.com a custom GP3300 in flat config with female deans plug only since i have the power cable.

if you will install 2 steering servos then you don't need to install the additional mount.

you will need to install the included spacer that will come with the truck for the radio tray to mount your servo if it is the same diameter as S5050. you can use the horn that comes with your servo but i decided to upgrade mine with aluminum horn from futaba to make sure there'll be no flexing.

the decal (2 sheets) includes the headlights and brake lights, if you will not get the decals then you will not have them cause the truck does'nt come with any decals. i had a hard time laying down the details cause they are large and tends to bubble if not laid down slowly part by part..i ordered it together with the truck.

i'm still waiting for the oil that i will use, its coming any day now...will do the break-in by this week.

Darkend, do you have a link or a photo of the Graupner direct servo power cable?

Default RE: FG BF ready for break-in

hope this help...its the cable that is connected to the battery pack.

if you have this, the two servos (steering and throttle) will go thru the cable then the cable's male plug will go to the receiver 1 & 2 slots, receiver's battery slot is not used anymore.

Darkend, I have the battery pack that came with the Futaba controller. Is this enough power or do I need like what you have? It looks like you have 4 C batteries in a chargable pack. Is there enough room for both 1/4 steering servos. Since I have both of them I might as well use them. Thanks for the pictures and your time. I still havent found where to purchase the decals. I ordered mine on Ebay. There is a man on there right now selling them for $1199 free shipping.

Darkend, Also how would you connect 3 servos? The receiver for the Futaba Magnum 3Pm has 3 spots. 1 for 1 steering servo, 1 for throttle servo and 1 for the 3rd channel. Do you program the 3rd channel to operate the 2nd steering servo?

Free, if you are running 2 steering servos, they both use the same channel....all you need is a Y cable.
The 3rd channel is generally used for front brakes....have a look at this wiring diagram.

freemurray, usually the included receiver packs with radios are only 4.8 volts (4 cell rechargeables), that is not enough and will not last you through the tank, you need at least 3000mah in 5-cell Sub-C because they are large scale servos and drains a lot of power, i just ordered mine with 16 gauge.

i got the direct servo cable and decals from www.netshop.nl , graupner #3050.65

the diagram Doohan displayed is what you need if you will use 2 steering and 1 throttle/brake servos.

if you will get the direct servo cable then you will need to add a Y-harness on the steering to use your 2 servos.

Darkend, As far as the battery pack goes, the only ones I see are the size of the battery packs for like roto starts with the power 6v 3000mah. They have a small 6v but they are only 600mah http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXH339&P=7

Thanks

Do we really need 2 steering, i mean isn't the 805bb enough for it?

freemurray, thats the problem with small cells they can only go as high as 1200mah, supposedly the number of mah stands for the runtime you'll get (ex: 3300mah=33mins of runtime) but there are lots of factors that will reduce that runtime, so at the end you'll probably just get around 25mins runtime.

yes the battery i'm saying is the same size as the 6-cell 7.2v stick packs used on rotostarts, but you'll only need 5 of them in side by side position. i don't think tower hobbies sell those kind of battery packs. the looks of the battery is exactly what is pictured above with the direct servo cable.

from cheapbatterypacks.com, go to the custom pack section and there you can create your own configuration.
1. choose # cells = that'll be 5 (1.2vx5 cells= 6v)
2. cell you want to use = that'll be the last one at the bottom GP3300SC, you'll not miss it, its the only GP3300
3. configuration = flat
4. select wire size = this depends on you now, i only took the 16 gauge
5. select connector = depends on you also

your total will be around $35-37 with shipping, and they do it priority.

No Moa, the 805 will do the job, just don't steer too much when the truck is not rolling and is on dead stop, so the servo will not get stressed too much.

Default RE: FG BF ready for break-in

You gonna get more then 33 min from a 3300mAh.

3300mAh does not stand for the runtime.
m = mili
A = Ampere
h = hour

What it say is that you can drain it with 3.3 A (or 3300 mA) for 1 hour before it is empty.

I get around 4-5 hour runtime from my 2100mAh size AA. Throttel Hitec 7945 and for steering Hitec 5735 running directly to the receiver.
If you have a receiver with a BEC-circut then you need direct power to the servo especially if you planning to use digital servos.

Why do you guys run power direct to the servos?

right pehter, thanks for explaining it better...i just realized this packs will be used on receiver and not electric trucks...

dubby, those large scale servo especially digitals draws high current, if your receiver has BEC (1) then it'll fry most likely if you will plug it there, (2) the servo will not get it's max power cause BEC will lower it to 4.8v ( if i'm thinking right )
