K+N is crap........ they fall off when you take a tumble!

Get the Pit Stop Tuning one, available exclusively from Effective Tuning in London. The man you want there is Paul Mclean.

http://www.zyworld.com/makki/

It really is the one to have! Much better made. And looks posh too!

Have only heard negative about the 2 speed, like the car is always in the wrong gear, good for on road but not for off, but that's secondary evidence......... bit expensive to try!

What kind of aluminum do you have installed? FG, KRP, KP??? Looks awesome. Any thoughts on where to start with aluminum. Going to be converting my Beetle to an MB.

Why thank you kind Sir!

The front end is mostly KPD, the wishbones are FG

The rear is all FG except the diff which almost cost me the price of a kidney! It's I think a Lauterbacher one........

In my humble opinion..... the KPD is good quality CNC but the finish is a bit fragile, might have to strip it and polish it soon.........

Do a search for KPD Patriot, now there's a car!!!

Also the Lauterbacher SuperX

Before you spend a fortune think about maybe a Leopard conversion too, I wish I had

Good luck and have fun!!!!

Vood - I find it very interesting that so few folks run 2 speeds on their Off-Road FG's - I think its due mostly to cost. I'm running a 2 speed on my MB - and I like the performance so much that I will most likley install one on my new MT and my new Leopard Race (not sure on the Leopard Race due to fit).

Note - I have had only 1 problem with my 2 Speed - the one way bearings. The 2 speed has 2 one way bearings in the gear holder they sit back to back and one of them seized/locked up and melted. The other one was fine - I ordered replacemnets for $14- and its run strong ever sense.

Pro's as I see them

1 - 2 speed is as you would expect quite a bit faster - Sure you can't always fun full out - but its fun when you can/do.
2 - You never worry about what gear you are in -- the car just runs and goes from 1st to 2nd in a blink - no issues.
3 - accelleration is very smooth and linear -
4 - Controlled Power Delivery - unlike MB's with tuned pipe and single speed that are Wheelie Monsters the 2 speed gets the power to the ground and allows you accelerate in a straight line w/out the wheelies. Don't get me wrong - wheelies are cool at first - but when you want to drive its nice to go foward and not up.
5 - No need to buy an expensive wheelie bar :-) Note - I ordered a rc-car wheelie bar for the MT - $150US- ouch - almost enough to buy 2 speed.

Con's

1 - Price - Although I'm going to buy another at the very minimum for my MT - I think it should be $50 or so less money.
2 - Install - some think its hard to install

Overall I think its a good adition to any FG off road with a tuned pipe - it directs the power to where you want it - It makes all the power we have in our Z260's - Tuned Pipes usable. If you can afford the purchase price -Go for it!
