The word is that the rear uprights rarely break, but that was on all the models before the monster tires. These monster tires are taking a toll on differant parts than the regular off road tires do.

I still see very very few uprights, And with 4 months of monster tires we have not yet broken one testing.
big tires have put more stress on driveline, but the suspension parts are holding up very similar.

The blue Pajero is my friends its all up and running again i got the water out of his motor straight away and got it running. It went out of control due to all the mud and a pine cone jamming the throttle open[X(]. Left the radio gear on the radiator over night and its fine. My MT throttle/ brake servo died [] just goes really slow now.

Took the Pajero and MT out again today to a grassy area both survived although i did wear my spur gear out. Is there an adjustment to ensure perfect mesh on the gears??

I've got about 20mins of video of the MT and Pajero in the mud and going up some very steep hills (who needs 4 wheels drive) but haven't sussed how to get it off the video camera and on to the pc yet.

top arm would be the weak point, that would be what we see most common, pulling the threads out of the top arm.

slightly undo the engine mount bolts and take off the brace between the diff and the engine, move the engine till you can just feel a bit of movement when you hold the diff and move the spur gear. If you get it right the gear will last for ages

Neb, There is no adjustment on the spur and pinion. They have a set mesh, that is why if you do a gearing size change you need to change both pinion and spur. Neb you are talking about changing the mesh between the diff ring gear and the jack shaft gear. That mesh is adjusted by moving the motor as you have stated.

I stripped it all down for cleaning and theres no way to adjust the backlash on the gears, the clutch/layshaft bearing carrier controls this and is not adjustable. Looks nice and clean again now though body is a bit bashed and the rear area is torn due to the wheelies i expect
