Homemade car?
Has anyone ever made their own car out of aluminum? What size gasoline engines do you all usualy use? I have a small 18cc or maybe 16..forgot but its an echo weedeater engine with 4 transfer ports, and I was thinking about hopping it up by putting a bigger carb, increasing the compression, and rasing the intake and exhaust timing. Would this make a car go pretty fast? of course it would need the right gear ratios. Also, how do you keep the car from moving when it is at idle? I know you need a brake, but do you all have clutches on the engines?
I want to build a simple car. It doesn't need to be all hightech or anything...All you really need is the bottom floor plate, the a-arms, some shocks, engine mount, gears ect....My brother has a little nitro car, and I pretty much know how it works, and i could use that as a guide to know what parts I could make out of aluminum plate at my school on our mill, lathe and other various machines. Of course some parts would need to be bought...
The main thing I want to know is if anyone has ever done this, and would that engine i was talking about work....

RE: Homemade car?
[8D] Hi, I am new to the forum.
I am building one as I am write this. It is all steel around 25 pounds with a chain saw engines (42cc). It will be chain driven so angle are carefully calculated for the rear suspension. I am also using two 805BB servo for steering.

Oh really. Sounds really cool. Do you got any pictures or anything of it? you can post them here or email me at [email protected]
How many parts did you make? and what type of tools are you using? 25 pounds is pretty heavy. I think it would be better to use aluminum. Keep me posted on what you are doing and any pics and stuff..

RE: Homemade car?
You should use at least a 21 cc motors with a clutch. the 16 cc will work but you maybe have 1 hp max. I started with a Echo 22 cc weed eater motor. Now I have a Zenoah 230 motor with twice the hp. The Zenoah motors have 18000 RPM max with 2.5 hp. I find it easier to work with Zenoah (sikk ) motors. I can install the forward /reverse transmissions easier. I try to make parts modular between my 2 trucks. Build it light.
