MT Shock Oil Issue...
There's major confusion with regards to shock oil 'thickness' or 'weight'. I'm in the process of ordering a Monster Truck but I'm so confused on what oil to buy, that I'm asking for some advice.
It seems to me that a lot of guys have success with something called 200wt. Now what will this be in FG terms? 2000? I need this in FG terms because I'm going to order FG oil. A few other guys had success with 45wt / 50wt?? I know I need to get a thinner oil, but which one. Whats the standard oil rating with which the MTs come out with?
Can anybody help please.

I bought a red-line shock oil 5w "light" and mixed it out 50/50 with the oil that was in the shocks from factory, seams just about right looked just like thickness of when you whip egg's
I have sitting untouched a Fg shock oil 500, and some silicone oil to use when i get my Lautherbacher aluminum shocks, 8 of them
I was surprised when i saw the thickness of the original shock oil "glue", it was really thick and slow moving So my mix will be pretty good i think better then that thick glue from factory.
I'm not going to bother much more with these shocks, I'm getting those other once in 1-2weeks i hope. Will test these i have now probably next friday-saturday. For now the weather is [sm=thumbdown.gif] snowing and melting at the same time

I got 45 in the front and 50 in the back. The oil I use is by tl if thats of any help.

The FG shock oil is like glue switched to 25wt in front no spacers and 50wt in back with small spacer,now it feels more like a Savage.Since the springs are stiff you get good damping with lighter oil,this is my thought.

I run 50w in my MT shocks.....out of the factory it is 200w.
I think another way of looking at it is 50 is the same as 500 so its called 50/500w, 200 is 200/2000w etc...

In my opinion the main misunderstanding is the way that that the shock oil rated. It seems that the european weights are rated in the thousands, and the american(standard) weights are rated in the tens. My FG MT handled terrible, so after getting advice from this forum, I got rid of the stock shock oil. Experienced members were telling me to get a lighter oil, something in the 5000 to 2000 range. I rebilt my shocks w/ 40# oil, taking a chance on standard weight it paid off. In my opinion, take two zero's of the oil weight and it should be equal. the 40# has completly changed my MT for the better. Most 1/5 scale machines seem to be european, since metric and standard dont jive, us north americans have to adjust. It's hard to work on a r/c when all the documentation is in german. So basically, 40# is equall to 4000#.

I thought a lower figure gives an indication of a thinner oil? Thus, a 500 will be a thinner oil than a 5000? According to the last post, it works the other way around?
