Carby question for engine gurus
hey there guys
As you may know I have 2 marders one is rather old with a 22cc Robin/subaru motor and the other is brand new with a 23cc zenoah both have tuned pipes.
I have noticed that the carby on the robin engine does not have a high speed mixture screw so I can't adjust full speed performance.
My question is if I fitted a new walbro carby that comes with the zenoa could I expect a reasonable performance increase? As I could then have more control over the high speed mixture.I am not expecting zenoah like performance
I'd rather not pull the carby of the new one as the manifolds look a little different and may need modifying and then i'd be stuck with neither for a while[]
thanks

RE: Carby question for engine gurus
I would look at replacing the Engine with an SIKK/CY clone.
Daves Discount Moters has the [link=http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product860.html]27cc SIKK[/link] on sale
A complete engine will set you back around US$ 152 + shipping + what parts you need to mount it.
Alu or plastic Zenoah Engine mounts, clutch and clutch bell.
A new carb with manifold will cost you around US$ 50 + shipping.
If your old Robin Engine has been used a lot, then you might be close to where you need new piston rings, new engine bearings, new gaskets and such.
New bearings for the Zenoah is around US$ 20, gasket kit another US$ 10, piston ring another US$ 8 (all prizes approx)
At the moment I wish that I had ordered a Long block, instead of upgrading my old 230RC with a big bore kit, as I now need to replace engine bearings and more.
Also, the old Robin should have around 1HP, the SIKK/CY 27cc a bit more than 3Hp.

RE: Carby question for engine gurus
thanks for the info but id rather spend the big dollars on my race. I was just after a little more top end. The Robin hasn't had very much use and has plenty of compression as it's on my second car and normally for someone else to use I don't want it too quick
I am thinking that it probably would improve performance or at least better fuel economy as I'd have more control over tuning with the second screw[8D]

RE: Carby question for engine gurus
the carbs have the same bolt spacing (31mm's) the only thing to look out for is the pulse hole on the carb spacer. the 167 walbro is a great chioce for the 23cc range engine...and if you decide to get a CY / Sikk engine check with [link=http://www.oneillbrothersracing.com/frames/rc_car_boat.asp]O'Neills Brothers Racing[/link] and tell em "FastRat" sent ya

RE: Carby question for engine gurus
Here is an update guys
I just received a new walbro 165a carby I bought of ebay for under 20 aussie dollars including shipping from the USA. No sooner had I opened the parcel that I started stripping the old carby off the robin.
The bolt holes are the same so no trouble there. The only problems I had were the pulse holes did not line up and the throat diameter was about 5mm larger so out with the dremmel to open up the old mounting block and carve a channel in the carby face to connect the pulse holes.
She started third pull on the bench, idles nice and both low and high speed screws change engine tune so things are looking good so far.
Next step is to make an air filter and work out some throttle linkages. I hope to have her running by the weekend.
here are a couple of pics
