Default What to buy? Newbie asking.

Hey.

I am going to buy my first large scale R/C this sommer. I am looking for af Buggy, but whitch is best for driving around my garden?
I am looking at the FG Marder and Leopard, but what difference is the, I would like a buggy where i can put on slicks and run on the road, and the also put on the
the MB wheels and go to the beach.
Is the Race versions of these buggy's worth the extra cash? I dont mind the extra price if there would be less trouble with the car.
Should i buy a :
tuned pipe?
disk brakes?
Alu front arms? (how durable is the plastic ones?)

About the servos, how strong should they be?
Are the RTR version of large scale buggy good?
What are the top 10 problems with large scale buggies?
Where should i buy in Europe?

Anything else i should consider? What would you guys buy whith your experience?

Hi ya mate,

I would suggest that getting a Marder or a Monster Beetle. I had a Marder Race and the 'race' versions are more for the hardended race driver and is quite a piece of serious kit. With the race version marder you get a alloy adjustable shocks, front ajustable 'A' arms, gear cover and the wider off set wheels. It is a great piece of kit. well worth the extra dosh. The leopard, i don't know much about.

I sold my Marder Race in favor of a Monster Beetle and it looks to be more fun. i have seen in action against marders, MT, leopards, Hoermanns, LB, and the mb seems be quite a difference in handling and looks a lot more fun, even tho it is a marder with monster truck tyres on and different gearing.

If you go for a Marder I will recommend the Marder Race, as you will likely end up wanting the ball drive kit , gear protector and steel pinion anyway.

You can also upgrade the Marder Race with the MB conversion kit, or just buy Monster wheels and change the gearing.

I have the Leopard Race, and with that you get a longer wheelbase, an alu rear diff. and a tuned pipe, in addition to the goodies on the Marder Race.

Leopard Race handles better, specially in a race situation, but for bashing it isn't that much better than the Marder Race.
Disadvantage with the Leopard Race is that you don't get as big a choice in shells and aftermarket parts as with the Marder based cars.

As for the RTR kits, that is a question of taste. The ones in Europe are normally sold with the Hitec Aggressor FM 3 channel radio, 805bb steering servo and 645MG for gas/brake.
The Leopard Race does not kome as RTR, and is more expensive without RTR than the Marder Race RTR.

As for how the parts hold up, that depends on how good a driver you are, and your driving style.
I have only broken parts when crashing.

I would say, buy the Marder Race, maybe a set of monster Wheels and the different gearing for that.
Buy some spare front and rear plastic wishbones.
When you are out of spares, decide if you need to upgrade to Alu.
Wait with the tuned pipe, until you have full control over the car as it is.
If you want to Race, the front brakes is a good thing.

I am thinking about an offer on a BigFoot Marder Race RTR.... sounds like fun.
Is wishbones the most comon things that brakes first?

I would say plastic arms and hubs are most vulnerable

replace with alloy if you drive hard

Hello Naldur

From what I have seen, Wishbones is what breaks first.

Bigfoot Marder Race is in my opinion about the best for the money.
An alu rear diff would also be nice.
