Steering setup pics please
Wondering if you wonderful folks could post a few pics of the steering setup on your trucks and buggies. I am trying to figure out how to design mine, and am having a bit of trouble. I need some direction to work in, and anything thats proven to work would be helpful. Thanks.

RE: Steering setup pics please
Don't worry he replied the same to one of my threads too. as for your question, the servo(s) are mounted upside down on the receiver mounting plate, with the arms then to thread rods, those connect to the servo saver, then with the support arms to the steering arms. If you have one servo mount it in the middle with two threaded rods to the servo saver. If you're using two servos you'll need a servo splitter, then connect one to each side of the servo saver, so when one pulls the other pushes.
Using dual servos will give you far greater torque, and lesser strain on each servo.

RE: Steering setup pics please
Thank you, that helps a lot. I was planning on using 2 servos anyway. Well, maybe even 3 since I wil not have a servo saver. The fact is I am not building a basher so it's not going to get beaten on. If you have any pics that would be great, I didn't know the servos were upside down..........interesting. I am trying to go with a vertical mount because of the way everything is sitting, so if the tried and true design can be stood up, that would be great. I can make any type of arm I need so getting around angles with the rods is no problem.

Here's a picture. Picture would be a top view when installed into the Marder (I guess similar in yours) exploded view - waiting for new FG to turn up and put radio/servo gear in :-)
How come you don't have a servo saver? I would definitely buy one, I believe it helps prevents stripped gears. If you're putting in £80 worth of servos must have IMO.

RE: Steering setup pics please
Wow, thats the perfect picture, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Thats exactly what i was looking for. The reason I don't plan on having a servo saver, is because I am sure none of them would last past the first turn. The truck itself is planned for 65lbs.....which is 10 less than my previous estimate. I'm actually surprised that i could save that much, but hey, not done yet. I have 3 805BB's ready for steering, and since it's not a basher, I can't see needing more than that. (Don't get me wrong...it will have to be played with, just carefully). It's going to be my trophy piece. My first real completed project from start to finish.

I would try designing a Servo Saver into he system, else The servos will have to give, if there is trouble.
You would just have to use stronger springs for the Servo Saver, to take the load of a 30kg truck.
The Servo Saver should be designed to give, not to break.
Look at the Servo Saver 04 in the FG Catalog for Ideas. I like the way it can be made stronger with O-rings.

page 2 should do it shows the servo saver in partss
if your making a truck a servo saver should be no problem, i'd not advise trying it with out the first bump will strip the gears

RE: Steering setup pics please
Ok, so....I will be making my own. Problem is.......I have no idea how. Originally I was planning on somehow using a pair of shocks from my old 1/10th, but, can't figure that one out. The picture of the FG saver helps, but I can't see how I could make one with that design that would be able to withstand the force of the servos, and the shock force from the tires. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

RE: Steering setup pics please
The fg servo saver won't work. I have tried it. The fg servo saver was designed for a 2 wd truck not a 4wd truck with a solid axle or larger scale(not a 65 lbs truck). You need to make a custom one for your application. The best way is to run the servos is direct. 2 - 805 servos should work???? but if you are concerned about power then get 2 GWS 777 plenty for your application. But if space is a problem then you consider the tone 050 servo has more than enough power in a smaller size than 2 GWS 777 servos. You need room to put some type of servo saver in if the space is limited. That is the problem with the 805 and larger servos. No servo savers are available. I just finished a servo saver for my off road truck with 2 805 servos. Every custom truck requires a custom part.

As I said, I will be making my own.........I just need to know what design idea to follow. That image is great, thanks. I should be able to make that, just bigger.
