Ordered Leopard and arrived within 3 working days. Missing one shock sock and they promptly sent another one. However engine was faulty, in the process of getting it sorted. Will get refund on postage to them....will update once it's resolved.

Because local shops are overpriced, unfriendly and basically just want your money...then not interested in you. IMO I would not buy a MT/MB. I've got about 100 downloaded movies of MB/MT RC cars...bouncy bouncy bouncy. Going to show mate those movies have a good laugh with their "handling"
Download some movies first, goto the movie section, checkout Marder/Leopard then Monster Truck/Monster Beetle.

If anything like this...

Get the Buggy IMO. You don't need MB/MT for that type of easy terrain, and being MB/MT more prone to tipping/rolling especially when climbing steep sided dunes. Checkout that MB movie, and Marder up the huge sand bank picture. The Marder will not tip backwards.
You'll probably get away with large scale rally car also.

RE: buying new MT
It's how they drive- not the visual aspect "on the bench"- and with sand you'll probably need spiked tyres. "Tractor tyres" ala MT/MB design works better at slower speeds trudging slowly through thick mud, not when they're spinning fast. Look at full-size Monster Trucks, they really just crash over cars in arena's. Get them to compete with rally cars, cornering at high speeds in European rally and they wouldn't stand a chance.
Compare a dragster against a Ariel Atom, totally different design. To most people the dragster will look "cooler" because it has huge tyres, whopping great engine, flames coming out of the exhaust. Ariel atom looks mundane. Small engine, small tyres, low top end speed, but awesome handling on the track. Put the dragster onto a small twisty track and the atom will beat it (since dragster can hardly turn)
You could look at the off-road Pajero, it'll look well suited in the desert.. Get a really good filter & pre-filter!

RE: buying new MT
Correct, Marder, Off-road Beetle and Pajero are basically the same, except for body tray for Beetle/Pajero and of course different shells, and spoiler for Marder and Beetle.
However Marder Race has the best/most upto date parts (ie shocks)
The body tray will help with thrown up sand, since wheel arches should help stuff being chucked in the chassis (forward section of Marder is slightly open near front wheels) and dust should stay down a bit with the arches. Probably.
Pajero body should help the filter not constantly sucking in sand, however need a few in/out ventilation holes on front/back. Sort of thing need to try and out and adjust as needed. Could remove back area and fit a "window" pre- filter perhaps.
Might have a problem with heat though, perhaps extra cooling fan? Will shorten engine and moving parts life (sand) Maybe watercooled marine engine with radiator & fan? (pretty cool if you could that)

RE: buying new MT
Servo for throttle & Brake, standard size, fairly decent torque due to brake.
One or two quarter scale high torque servos for steering.
Receiver 40mhz (at least 2 channel, 3 in case going into disc brakes or using LED checker) or computer tranmistter radio if want to do computer mixing (throttle/brakes/steering)
6v 5 cell Sub C Car battery pack (for receiver & servos) with high current charge lead and connector to receiver.
Tie clips, Fanstastic foam (single sided padded foam)
Receiver box (comes with Marder Race)
Transmitter, not 27mhz. 40mhz? Whatever your country allows for RC cars (in the UK 40mhz) Greater range and stabililty than 27mhz.
Transmitter batteries
Receiver & transmitter crystals (matching)
Transmitter & car battery charger. Usually the slow wall plug chargers suitable for transmitter, but not car battery. Need a delta peak charger for that.
Switch for car (get sand proof switch!)
LED checker
Fail safe
Jerry can
2 stroke oil (need to make up 25:1 mix)
Usual tools like allen keys, philips screwdrivers, small screwdrivers, lock-tite, spanners.
Polycarbonate Body spray. masking tape or cellotape
Filter oil
Spare screws, bolts, R clips.
Light grease for moving parts.
Think that's it.

RE: buying new MT
I do not understand everyone complaining that the MT is too bouncy. After I changed the shock oil, the only bounce I get is when going full throttle on an uneven lawn with high and low clumps of grass. As far as wheelies, NO Wheelies after the shock oil change. Want to eliminate the bounce all together? Just add 3-5 pounds of weight or more. OR if FG came out with a MUCH larger selection of springs, then all you would have to find is a spring/s which compress quickly to a certain point then get tighter and return to it's original length quickly (Progressive springs). OR place a shock spring from Serpent or other small scale inside the FG spring. Would have to be the lighter weight than a Traxxas 4.1 and you would not need the large spacer.

If you scroll half way down there are people making spring ranges now as we speak.
