I tried that and as soon as the car fired up the nut came off because I couldn't get the socket off in time. The nut went flying across the garage. I cleaned out all the grease and use dry graphite lock lube to lube the starter. You still have to take it off and blow it out with an air compressor now and then then re lube. Getting the grease out of everything in the starter really helped.

To solve the nut coming off problem don't use any throttle and use the cordless on high speed. you just want the engine to idle.
As long as the drill spins the engine faster than idle there should be no problem. It worked fine on my ROBIN

It sounds like you have a duff one. Get a new one and you'll be fine. They usually work fine as long as you don't over stretch the return spring.

RE: i hate this pull start
Gluing a large onw way bearing inside a socket and using that to start the truck will work too. And it won't catch when the engine starts.
Use JB weld and attach the bearing so that it fits tight around the nut on the flywheel and glue it into the socket. Then start the engine and pull the socket off.
That's the basic way all those drill starters in 1/10th scale work.

Here is what I did to "help" the problem that your having.
I used our pre-fitlers material to do this but you could use just about anything and it will help.
