Default Starting probs

Can any of you engine boffins help.

I've got a spark at the plug, fuel is getting through and the engine will fire for a nanosecond if idle is set as high as possible.

What could the problem be?

Have you checked for air leaks in the fuel lines?A small pin hole changes everything, maybe your carb is dirty?

thanks for the suggestions.

there were a few air bubbles in the fuel tube, i'll try again after replacing the tube.

carb was stripped and cleaned last week after the car went for a swim in a ditch....... been running fine since though, until today.

choke on or off i get the same problem.

thanks again

Try replacing the plug. You may well have a spark when it is out of the engine, but it is not unusual for a plug to break down under load. go for the easy things first.

Check your compression....only takes fuel, air, spark to fire a engine if you got all 3 of those and still no go you lost enough compression to allow it not to pull enough fuel and compress it for firing to run
