I think I blew my diff, any better parts to buy? (Firehammer)
I was at a r/c boat race last weekend and during lunch break I was running the Firehammer. Most boat guys had not seen one and so were suitably impressed and everyone wanted a turn "pulling trigger". I passed the controlled around and let anyone who wanted to give it a try. Was on a rocky/dirt surface. Some unlucky sap was the one who while making his first pass the buggy stopped rolling and just then engine revved. []
Playing around with it after it sure seems like the diff is gone. There is almost no resistance left and it makes "crumbly" noises.
I have not had a chance to take it apart yet. I noticed the gears for it cost $40 bucks from Tower. Are there any better quality gears available for this brand buggy?
Thanks!

it's a marder copy.. maybe a marder diff would fitt.. there are alloy diffs i think..
i've not yet had the chance to try one.. my marder is just 2.7 tanks old:P
i hate that so many wanna try it.. it's my little torture baby..
where out today.. i got no regret buying one
i know there are some shops in the US who sells...
but i guess they will cost atleast 5 times more then a firehammer one..
might be a gear to that is to tired to work?
the german site is www.rc-car-online.de

You can find an Alu diff for the Firehammer/smartech/Carson. I think I have seen it at http://www.rc-cars-online.de
if you go for an FG Alu Diff, then Beware, the drive cups for the Firehammer does NOT fit on a FG Diff. You need FG cups for FG Diffs.

Take it apart to make sure what parts are gone. Maybe it's just the plastic diff case, then an upgrade to a FG alloy case would be a good idea. The internals of those two brands can't be mixed, but the cases are compatible. So when only the case is broken you can put the FH parts in an FG diff case.
Regarding the gears they don't seem to be a serious problem, especially not in a stock FH.

My friend did the same on his Marder, turned out to be a loose set screw inside the dif, retighten and some lock-tite he was back running!

Hey guys!
Thanks for all your help. I had a chance this evening to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a stripped pinion and spur gear. The clear plastic cover was so dirty on the inside I could not see it!
I already had purchased a pinion and spur a few weeks ago as I thought it would be good to have them on hand. Yup!
Surprisingly, it already has an alloy cover over the diff! [X(]
Thanks,
-Tom
