Default FG Bigfoot new beadlocks and carbon fiber chassis!

Check this stuff out. It is gorgeous. These beadlocks do not use individual bolts as is common practice. Instead, the outer portion of the ring screws on to hold the tire! Brilliant. You can effect a tire change in a fraction of the time of bolted beadlocks. It uses a star shaped wrench with locating pins and so can be placed insto the ring at any position and lock into it and turn the ring. The designer said he is also able to do one off designs. Just send him a pencil sketch of your wheel desire and he can make it in a beadlock.

The carbon fiber chassis looked like glass! Immacualte. And ths side plates are actually molded carbon fiber and are just dirt shields. The CF chassis needs no other structural reinforcement so these side pieces are very thin and flexible. The whole thing was ultra light.

No affiliation, just thought his stuff was cool. He doesn't even have a website!

Yes, $900 for beadlocks is tough to swallow. $450 for the rims, and another $450 for the wife's stuff. But, I'll have to figure out to get a Marder chassis if he makes them.

Yes, I meant every time I spend $450 on my stuff, i would have to give the wife permission to spend $450 on candles or some other ornaments for the house. Thats alot of candles.

How does carbon fibre hold up against petrol, oil and heat though? [:-]

cf is superior compared to the qualitys of metal, it weighs lighter, is stronger in compound than metal, it can flex and then retains shape/form where as metal will bend then break or have a weak spot from damage thus loosing its overall strength.

so i think oil and petrol will not affect it in any way shape or form

but don't quote me on that

I know push bikers use no grease on CF parts (seatpost) I think it breaks down the CF layers or something, and I wonder about petrol (pretty nasty stuff) with oil as well, plus heat from the nearby engine.

$450 isn't too bad when the on-road carbon chassis is about $800 CAD!!! Would be nice to see how much without the side guards. If it's $450 for the chassis and side guards and $125 foir the side guards alone then the chassis should cost around $350. ($325 but the price is always higher for a single pc)

The stock chassis is around $150 CAD anyway.

I'd worry about the rear end though. Some of those holes are pretty close to the end. If it was a carbon chassis re-inforced with aluminum like some bike bars.

Haha what are you guys, beginners?!

I tell my wife my fun stuff costs about a fourth of the actual amount... And that still equates to a lot of shoes!

When I buy stuff at my LHS, I have them re-mark it lower, and pay cash. Its the internet sales, that put the bill in the box. My wife knows a little bit about prices on this hobby stuff, so I can never get away with stuff.

My wife says buy whatever I want as long as I can pay for it and I don't put us in financial ruin.

Mad wax: A friend of mine uses a carbon chassis now for 2 years in racing offroad (modified Leopard), no probs with petrol or oil.
Carbon is not that much lighter than aluminium, the few grams differance is not worth the extra penny IMO you can much easier gain the wheight advantage on other items!
If you are looking for real race equipment when it comes down to a more stiff chassis or just to put on your shelf to look at, then you are spot on!

Don't expect the CF chassis to be more bomb proof than your aluminium one already is. There is not much differance. It will NOT handle spot pointed forces well.
Be prepared to pay for it as these are mainly one-offs.

In case you like CF cars go take a look for RS5, pity they do not have a buggy or MT (yet).
But they just released a new F1 which is looking sweet if you ask me. Don't know how it handles though.

Cheers.

I spoke to Brett about his products last night. He has put a lot of time and hard work into these products. He said he has been testing the rims since April and wants to make sure they will hold up. He has been beating them up to make sure they hold strong. He was quite suprised about the response he got from the show and from this thread. He told me he will be joining the forum shortly so he can add input and ask any questions. From speaking to him and seeing the pictures, the design appears to work well. I will know more when I see the demo rim he is sending me to look over.

He will probably sell direct to a distributor so your fg dealers should be able to get them for you. I am sure when he gets up and going here, he will answer any questions you have.

I do know he is putting a CF front skid plate in the works as I am writing this. at 1.2lbs each, the rims are just over double the weight of the plastic ones.

Hi Everyone.

Brent Pierce here, the guy in the photos with the Carbon Parts and Beadlocks for the FG Monsters.

I have read all of the threads you guys have posted and realize that some may have questions as well as concerns. Thank you for all of your comments.

Thanks "kmot" for posting the pics. You said you would create a buzz with theses.
Thanks "Mike" for letting everyone know we talked.

I am prepared to answer questions for those that have them.

Please feel free to ask. I want everyone to know up front that I am a fellow enthusiast that just wants to have good parts when running his truck.

These are not one-offs. I am dedicated to providing the highest quality component that is tested before releasing. We use current design and modeling software. To include Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Soooo. Who's first?
