General requirements would be..

A 3 channel FM transmitter, stick or steering style, with channel EPA and trim settings
3 channel receiver with low level battery and transmission failsafes ie Futaba R113P
At least one high power quarter scale steering servo, or perhaps two
One standard size high torque servo for throttle/brake
LED battery monitor
Switch
Battery (5 cell sub c) 6V with receiver and charge leads

I personally have Futaba 3PK RX & TX set, 40mhz FM PCM, two Hitec HS-705 MG (metal gear) for steering, Hitec HS-645 MG for throttle/Brake, Robbe battery monitor, waterproof switch.
Other good setups would be Multiplex Rhino and Multiplex Power.
Futaba 3PM PCM also (most features of 3PK)

EPA is End Point Adjustment...... there is nothing in his post about an ESC.

It all depends on how much control you want and how much you want to spend. I also use a 3pk pcm and love it but there are many choices; the new M11 looks promising and so does the nomadio but you can get away with a JRfm but you will lose pcm, built in fail safe, brake mixing and a real rechargeable system (not crappy panasonic aa cells) The choice is yours. Pleae bear in mind the horror of a runaway is very real and very dangerous to the equipment and others around you; Skimp on the alluminum parts not on the radio!

i agree, decent radio gear is a must before alloy and other hop ups,see so many marders and other fgs on ebay with futaba attack transmiters/receiver package (£25),2 crap servos and a £10 failsafe - i wouldnt trust a £40 setup in a £600+ model

Sometimes it amazes me how some people (Doahh) become moderators.

I use a sanwa Gemini II FM which is a stick type handset (not wheel/trigger) which allows me to set the EPA on the servos too & multiplex servos, Rhino Digi 4 for the steering & power speed for throttle, they work great with no probs :-)

as for fail safe, ive not fitted one (yet) as ive heard many different storys about them, some people say they have done the opposite of what they should do even though they were setup correct & some say theyre great, so atm im holding off, what i do want though is a audible alarm that will sound when my reciever batterys are getting low :-)

Get a receiver with failsafe built-in. It's saved at least four runaways that I know of!

just get a inline battery checker - the leds show you when the battery is starting to drain, only set you back around £5 - i would still invest in a decent failsafe or better radio gear with failsafes built in.

I agree with R C M a good radio is a must the cheap futaba/ acoms radio just dont cut the mustard. I have recently converted my KO 2000r to accomodate the spektrum unit. If you are planning to use truck in a crowded environment the spektrum unit may be worth considering. Also as good a servo's as you can afford, as if you upgrade the truck in future which a great deal of people do particulary the brake system you will need servo's with good torque.

yea i dont have a 5 scale YET but i also recomend u spend ur money on really nice radio gear. i already have a m11/spektrum and it is promising! but again if u dont want that much of a radio get a m8 or a jr xs3 pro
jr line of radios are really good for beginners. i didnt know u had to have 2 large steering servos? thats like $250 right there!
