There's a $6 FG brand tool that holds the diff gears together while installing them. It made my assembly job a lot simpler. Highly recommended.

I think this is the tool:
08505 - Mounting tool f.bevel gear wheels, 1pce.
Found it on rcnutshobbies.com. Let me know if this is what you are taking about.

Right you are on the 8505 part number. I just looked at my invoice for the order. I paid $7 for it. You will look at it at first and go "Now why did I pay $7 for two aluminum bars, one with a hole in it?" Then you will build the diff and say, "Best $7 I ever spent!"
It was recommended to me by the FG dealer to use automotive bearing greasing (thick, sticky stuff) and apply it to the gear teeth. Some on the forum like to pack thier whole diff with grease but dealers don't seem to recommend that. Once you have the grease applied the gears and everything gets all slippery you will really be glad you got the helper tool. Even with the tool it took me several tries to get the gears, shims and limited slip assembly set right.
Also, don't do this on carpet. I did but put out newspaper and had some paper towels on hand. This job is a bit messy.

But where did you find it? I'm getting ready to rebuild my differential with new internal gears and new outdrive cups. That means I will be needing that tool. I tried www.rcnuthobbies.com but it came up as a web search. Does someone have a link to the site? Also what's the shipping rate on that website? Thanks

RE: fg alloy diff conv 8484
Anybody ever have the internal gears and the rough part of the outdrive cups not grip the way they should? Yesterday I was using my Firehammer, and I would notice clicking sounds when hitting rough parts of my yard that made the tires come off the ground and grind when the tires came back down, it sounded like something slipping. Further along it got worse and eventually, it was more like a grinding sound. If I would push down on it to keep the tires from rotating and hit the gas it was just grind away. I know it's not the pinion, spur, transfer, outer diff gear or internal diff gears that's causing the problem because I checked them and none of them are stripped or severely worn. Due to process of elimination I determined the problem was the outdrive cups not gripping the gears when I hit the gas. I ordered the gears and the outdrive cups from tower hobbies, and I pray that solves the problem. Anybody have any advice????
