Gear cover rubbing - Shouldn't it fit?
Hi again folks,
Well, getting close to the completion of my Marder to MB conversion and... Having changed the gear ratios to 16/48 I find that my plastic gear cover rubs on the spur gear [:@] I thought that the cover was supposed to fit all, or am I wrong. If I'm wrong, what can I use instead??? Problem is that there is no way of adjusting the alignment.
Having said that, with a tuned pipe I may be ok going back to 18/46 but that would be a shame as I've just invested in a new 16T steel pinion as well as a spare 48T spur gear.
What's the general opinion on these things...?
Best wishes,
Luke

RE: Gear cover rubbing - Shouldn't it fit?
Leave the cover off, the cover holds in heat which can make your plastic gears wear faster. You will need to trim it for the 16/48 gears, I cut the bottom out of mine to make it fit but I just leave it off. You will be fine with 18/46 gearing and the MB tires, works great, gives it more top speed and still has plenty of low end power. The 16/48 is almost too low I think, but I have all steel gears so I have to run 16/48.
