Default gear ratio formula

Anyone know the formula to figure out the final gear ratios?

For example: with a 16/48 pinion/spur and 15/48 layshaft/diff gear the final gear ratio is 9.60.

I have 16/50 pinion spur with a 15/48 layshaft/diff and am trying to figure out what my final gear ratio would be.

I also want to know the formula so if I want to put say a 17/48 layshaft/diff with 16/50 pinion spur...what would the gear ratio be.

Thanks,
amitysanimal

Default RE: gear ratio formula

You take the gear ratios separately as division... 48/16=3.0/1 ; 48/15= 3.2/1
Then multiply the results...... 3.0x3.2=9.6/1

so...
50/16=3.125/1
48/15=3.2/1

3.125x3.2=10.0/1

and...
48/17=2.824/1
50/16=3.125/1

2.824x3.125=8.825/1

Enough of the math lesson... Gearing up for any paticular reason?

Default RE: gear ratio formula

Thanks alot, I really appreciate your help.

I have 3 sets of tires, I have the MB tires, Marder tires and the CNR 40 series alloy rims with Moabs. When you switch to the Marder tires, I need to gear up quite a bit. I also want a set of on-road tires and would need to gear up.

I have the stell gear conversion using 16/50 so some of my gear changing will be done with the layshaft gear.

Thanks again,
