Default Poor Man's Beadlocks?

This Marder is up on eBay for sale. It looks like the owner used small screws on the inside of the rim to anchor the tires instead of glueing?

I am guessing the screws go through the outer rim, through the tire and into the 'inner' rim wall. If the screws were too long they could rub the inside of the tire tread.

Looks interesting. I wonder how well it would work. It would beat glueing tires that's for sure.

thats not a Bad idea. as long as the screws were the correct length, but then again, add 1/4 inch of screw, and a center row and you ll be all set for the ice. just need a whole set to run on NOT ICE..lol

if you did not rebalance it later it would, but if it were me, id do the rear, then pull the screws, balance, rescrew and check it, shouldnt be too bad if you set it up right the 1st time.

I didn't think about wheel balancing. That's a good point. Someone here on the forum mentioned using automotive wheel balancing lead weights to address this.

Liking the ice spikes idea too. Selwa put screws into his tires to get snow tires. They threw out cool sparks on pavement

lol i would never consider wheel balancing.

cos when u run in the mud, the wheels fill up with junk/mud ect ect and so all ur efforts of balancing would be out the window

i would only worry about balancing on an on road car.

They look like rivets to me, but I really can't tell. Good idea anyway.

thats true about the blood mudd and the beer JD, but a lil Hoser, errrr hoseing will cure that and your still balanced. the main gain would be in bearing wear and overall finer handleing really. car wheel weights could work but id rather use something like golfers tape. its a adheasive backed thin lead strips golfers use to help balance their swings. available at any pro sports or prot golf store.

Great tip on the golf weights. Never knew they existed.

I do agree with JD that balancing is not that useful if debris is sticking to the wheels anyway. Fine tuning a bashing car is not going to be too useful in general.

I would just want to prevent extreme balance problems from wearing out parts quickly.

I thought of how they probably got those screws in perpendicular to the wheel. The guy probably had bare rims. He could mark the spots to drill on the outside of the plastic rim and drill through from the outside making the hole through both layers of plastic to the inside of the rim. Then run the screws in from the inner portion of the rim into the plastic. I was looking at a wheel last night and imagine that if the screw were 4mm or shorter in length that it could work.

My current and next set of (backup) wheels are all glued so I wont be testing this trick anytime soon but maybe with the next set beyond that.
