Baja 5B tires
So aside from the Baja to FG adapters, is there anyone else who has got ideas on mounting tires on a Baja?, I was hoping i could modify a set of Proline beadlocks and put on some Big joes or something but that got shot down when i saw the rear suspension set up. UPS dropped my Baja off on friday and i've only ran about two tanks through it and i'm already seeing tire wear. The last thing i wanna do is drop money on another set of stock junkers.

Forget about the tires its the foam that I have been having the most problems with. The second the foams get wet, add in a tuned pipe and some RPM they just spin apart. I got about two passes on my new tuned pipe and the foams disintagrated.

HPI has the stocker tires that are M compound. they also have a set of them coming out in S compound so they will be much harder then the stock Ms, as well as street tires and sand paddles. but for now its Ms, with Ss being out very soon, the rest its hurry up n wait.

if you have to wait as long for the tires as you did the truck then you could be waiting some time.
only wish FG produced a few styles of tire paddles would be way cool

RE: Baja 5B tires
The only damage to my tires came from running it in the parking lot near my house to see how fast it was. I think the problem with RC designers is that the figure anyone who buys a RTR rc is going to take it straight to the race track, so they make the tires as soft as possible and for a basically hard pack manicured track. However in the real world, i would bet at least 75% of the RC buyers are just gonna bash their new ride in a backyard or construction site or gravel quarry, so what we need is a good all purpose fairly hard compound knobby or all-terrain tire. Maybe in the future the RC companies will listen to customer feedback and design a vehicle accordingly like Ford did with the '05 Mustang. If HPI was gonna corner the market right off the bat with their new wheel hub size and tire size for the Baja they could have at least gave us a couple of optional tires. I can be pretty sure the terrain is much different in Foot Hill Ranch California than it is here in Ohio. As far as warranty goes, HPI has been great for me. I had a Nitro MT a long while back and i was having trouble stripping spur gears, they had me send back the 6 junk gears i had and sent replacements for them.

HPI has some new Rims with new beadlocks and foams and tires that should be available end of this week, or by next week. for those of us haveing issues with the rear a arm rubbing, and ripped tires, and crumbling foams, then we will get warrenty replacements. but you need to CALL HPI and and start there. so Far, i have had a few issues. and calls to HPI have been meet with a smiling person on the other end of the line, and parts being shipped out within a day at no charge, unless its a piece they dont have yet.

RE: Baja 5B tires
well i guess i'm glad to hear that i'm not the only person who has had the rear tire get into the A-arm. when i got my buggy i put on the 2 degree toe shims on the rear hubs and within 10 minutes run time i had to take them back off and put the 3 degree shims back on. With the 2 degree shims installed the inner beadlock on both rear tires kept getting lodged on the lower shock screw. Did anyone else have this problem??

Yeah,i just got off the phone with jerry at HPI.My disgust with the poor quality was understood.I will have a new set of foams in a few days. This is not the first time i have dealt with their customer service which is outstanding. He also mentioned the new tires and rims should be up for grabs in about a month.Hopefully less!!.
Thanks HPI for your great support and product warranty.

RE: Baja 5B tires
i havent done anything to it as far as shims and such, the rubbing on the A arms are 2 part i think, 1 is the wheel flex that is going on. the inner part of the rim flexes, and in some cases became inverted, so thats part of the rubbing. also if you flip you buggy upside down, you can push the rear wheels and compress the shock, and you will see your inside of the rear rims will drag at the rear shock mounting position, its very close to the screw, but i personally have not seen or found it catching on the screw.... these issues are what HPI is hopeing to illiminate with the new rims and beadlocks, better compound to help stop tire ripping and early wear, and ofcourse the wheel rubbing...

I see where the rim collapses when landing jumps and rubs on the lower arm.It is wearing a groove right there next to the lower shock screw. This,no doubt is gonna give away soon.

I just got off the phone with HPI and they told me they would replace any defective parts by either sending in the parts or taking pics of them and sending them to customer support via Email. they also said there were designing new wheels made of different material to hopefully eliminate the flex that is occuring. they are also working on new tires of different compound and different tread pattern.

yea Guru. a call to HPI will get you new rear arms on the way, im going to wait until they get almost thru, and hope the new wheels and beadlocks help. im really appreciative that HPI is willing to send out rear A arms, but dont want to dunk that cookie in the milk too much.

RE: Baja 5B tires
I don't mind buying the arms myself. After all,i was jumping it pretty good and i don't expect HPI to supply every part that wears or breaks. What gets me is those foams that lasted only 2 1/2 tanks, and the fact that they are $35.00.[:@]WOW ***,hpi can buy those and i will dunk that cookie as many times as i have to,even after it gets soggy.
I was gonna go crazy with my baja, like putting a red cap motor and pipe on it,but i think i will just run it like it is with the x-can on it and that's it.I will save my dough and get my FG MB.That one i will pimp out with alloy and performance parts.

Dont give up so soon on HPI. You have to look at the way their beadlock works, its not exactly the best design in the world, if you are running anywhere near water it WILL find its way into any gaps or openings. I guess i need to start by asking what happened to the foam? i have had 5 different RC trucks, nitro/elec, and the only time i ever saw a problem with the foam is when i was running my savage in the snow and the water got in through the vent holes in the wheel then froze, however i was able to dismount the tires and dry out the foam then it was back to the bashing.

RE: Baja 5B tires
I don't recall getting my tires wet.I avoid puddles and such.I was fixing the beadlock and noticed some stuff falling out of my tire,so i proceeded to pull the tire back some more and the foam was like mulch.Rather than remove it all at that time i just put the tire back together so i had something in there until i could get replacements.O.K.so the foams are crap, but i will not stop crying about the price of new ones. That is rediculous.I am glad the cust.service is good enough to replace them.
Thanks again HPI,now lower your GD prices.

RE: Baja 5B tires
After reading your last post you peaked my curiosityso i took off my tires and checked mine. the first thing i noticed is that the foam stinks like all get out, sorta like moth balls i guess. second was very LITTLE peices of foam rolling around in the bottom of the tire, when i say little i mean just slightly bigger than grains of sugar. so i just wonder if you might have got a bad set? And with the cost of dealer parts, your gonna find that anywhere from RC's to full size vehicles. Hopefully Proline has some tires and foam in the works so we wont have to rely on HPI.
