RE: traxxas monster buggy
I've got one and I like it. I've had it for about 14 years. I know many people don't care for it, but mine has been great. I've never had a problem getting parts. Only thing I hated were the ugly wheels, but I was able to swap them out (with a little work) with the ones from my FG. I'm sure the Firehammer wheels (and square hubs) will fit. With the Traxxas tuned pipe, it will run with the rest of the 1/5 scales out there. I know the price has dropped on them in the recent past too. Given all this info, I think I would probably get the Firehammer if I was shopping for something new and on the cheaper side.

RE: traxxas monster buggy
well, sure enough, there are quite a few posts similar to this one, and apparently, not too many people like it.....
roughly a little over half the people that responded thought/think that these gassers get boring quickly, and/or arent impressed.
but it seems there are many upgrades you can put on the engine, so maybe it's not too bad after-all. i'd really like to try one, though

I owned a Nitro for about 7yrs, and NEVER had as much fun as I have had with my Gasser in the last 6 months..
Im tellin you..Size DOES matter.. large scale RC's renewed my love for the RC hobby.

RE: traxxas monster buggy
I have owned the Traxxas MB for about 4 years, had all the upgrade goodies(tuned pipe, front and rear sway bars, aluminum shock towers, on road tires) but sold it to get the BAJA.
No hobby shop will or can carry parts for the MB, you must go thru Traxxas directly for parts. I must say Traxxas customer service is top notch. I had received many parts FREE of charge.
There are quite a few large scales on the market now, do a search and see what is good for the driving conditions you will be running in.

RE: traxxas monster buggy
whoa, looks pretty cool.
DOG i was thinking the same thing, because even though i've never driven a gasser, i still think it'd be so cool.
but, i really like the baja as well, it's just that the traxxas MB turns out slightly cheaper in the end.

RE: traxxas monster buggy
tommy,
I'm not sure that the traxxas is cheaper at the end. The firehammer includes radio, batterypack, servos, etc and is not much more (about 200 bucks). With the firehammer, you got a endless supply of hop ups and a parts supply from Tower. I've got both and really like my Traxxax Monster Buggy...but I bought it many years ago. If I was shopping for a lower priced gas buggy today, I'd get the firehammer. If you can swing the extra 70 bucks over the firehammer, the brandnew HPI is within reach too. I know the debate goes on and on over the HPI, but with time there will be lots of aftermarket parts and HPI wil be around for parts. With all the competition lately, I'm not so sure the Traxxas Monster Buggy will be around much longer.
