Good idea get rid of the Purple , as for powder coating i did it and ended up stripping it because of chipping , go anodizing if your going to go with a colour .

u dont have to bead blast them just use ez-off or some acid that truck washes use to clean the aluminum tanks and wheels

powdercoat is great on steel, but on aluminum it will only chip off.... anodizing is they way to go.

how about muratic acid? i heard that will strip the anodizing off and not harm the metals. ( i know it wont harm most metal, i use it sometimes to clean the well points on older hand driven shallow well points. but not sure if it will strip the anodizing or how it will effect aluminum.

over cleaner strips it...money replaces it
you can buy kits [link=http://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize.html]here[/link] to redo parts

how well anodizing holds up depends on the quality of the job

You can also use crystal DRANO. I've used it and it works better and quicker than easy off oven cleaner. Just make sure you use gloves and do it outside. Wife will be much happier!

when u use chemicals to do it. i dip it in the acid or base for a few seconds then wash it off with water then dip it again until it all gone. if u let it sit in too long it will make the part turn darker in color but it can be wiped off. it just makes it more of a pain than just doing a little at a time.

I have used oven cleaner in the past on my savage parts and it was a pain in the ***** [:'(]. Bead blasting is soooo much easier and cleaner and safer, if you have access to a blast cabinet.
