MCD Snow Suit. Check it out.
Its been FREEEEEEZING cold Here in Canada, -25C....reaching -38C with the windchill, so I havent been able to get out much witht he new MCD. With all the new snow I cant wait to get out, except I really did want to keep as much wet/dirt/dust out of everything as possible. Less chance for rust, stripping screws, and of course, les chance of water ruining the electronics. So this is what I came up with.
Now dont laugh at the Sewing as I had less than a 5 minute crash course on how to sew, and seam things correctly. Took me about 3 days of trial and error and I am VERY pleased with the results. My MAIN concern is 2 things...
1-Will there be enough airflow to keep the engine running at a safe Temp.
2-Will the pipe burn the material (Canvas)
Other than that, it looks cool, and should do its job to my sattisfaction.
The last Picture shows an Air Intake that I started working on, cardboard and an old air filter to route air into where the air intake is, do you think this wiould be needed? All the Pictures are shown without the top Flap that kinda lays over the large gap in the middle, Simple Velcro holds it in place and is not fastened where I need to slide my hand in to turn engine off, as well as do needle adjustments. The WHOLE suit, can be taken off by simply removing the wheels and undoin some Velcro, I did not change the Truck or any parts AT ALL...
Oh, and I will probably dye the whole thing black, to match the body, this material was the only stuff I could find..

That's a sharp suit there!
I can't imagine the pipe would set the canvas on fire. It might scorch it.
Don't know about the heat build up but hopefully the cold outdoor temps will help with that.
Let us know how it does and don't forget the dirty pictures

Ya, I dont think it will light the Canvas on fire either, Possibly after time it may wear the material down. I have thought about the Heat build up on the engine itself, and a weedeater, you dont WAVE around, so it stays cool at wide open throttle for hours.. so......I dunno...
What are Average temps for these engines...would 200-240 be accurate?

Snow rocks! Living in Sweden kinda demands that attitude towards snow. I love driving my FG in the cold and really await the white from the sky. Although this winter my new Kyosho Nitro Blizzard might prove to be more fun to drive in the snow.
The only thing I do to "snow prep" my FG, apart from mounting snowchains, is to put a second cover over the air filter. Ball bearings like some WD-40 afterwards and the servos benefit from beeing treated with silicone, vaseline or baloons and other things that improve their ability to handle moist. (Since the melting snow finds it way in.)

It's quite fun to run these big things in the snow i cant wait until we get snow over here, so my two big trucks can come out and play as they have not done so for a few months now
I had a special cage last winter for my humvee to protect against snow etc, but will do something else this time... i guess i need to start making something, i will ask my mother when i visit her if she can help me
I have cut the tires on one of them, but havent tried that in snow yet, but it looks cool. On the fg i guess i need some nice spikes or chains for better grip.... but it's fun even without spikes and chains Drifting is one of the most funny things to do in the snow/ice [sm=thumbup.gif] More lights and spike and a nice frozen lake [sm=biggrin.gif]
edit: my electric crawlers love the snow.... was driving my 1/6 electric humvee in a snowstorm late in the evening last winter, that was both fun and freezing.... couldnt feel my fingers after the run at all, almost couldnt pick up the machine
Both my gassers create their own snowstorms.... atleast the 4wd does a good job of it

If you had snow all the way down there......................you would do the same as all of us. But I would still rather be where you are so the on road car can play today.

That looks cool, DOG! [sm=thumbup.gif] maybe metal (wire) ribs could be added to keep the canvas off of the pipe.
A couple of years ago, there was some discussion on this forum about making some sort of water resistant chassis bag that used Velcro to seal the top. [sm=50_50.gif] I even bought some material to do it myself (still have it), but I never got around to experimenting. It doesn't snow here, but I wanted to see how well it would keep mud out of the Beetle.
I'm curious to know how well your snow suit fares.....

Like I stated above, I am now concerned about overheating, and the pipe burning material. I guess we will find out soon enough. I brought my Temp Guage with me today... Even though its -25C outside right now I may have to bundle up and take it for a test drive..
