gear carrier
Hey guys. What do you think of this gear carrier? I made one with set screws and found out they suck. So I made this one with out. I broached the center and no more need for set screws. It's made of 6061 aluminum.

RE: gear carrier
Thanks, I dont have alot of time to be on the computer so I couldn't get back to respond. I dont need shims though. It was made to exact spec of the size my car would hold. I tested it in some of the worst terrian I could find for the whole summer. Its held out great. Plus to clean I can take it off and put it right back on with no worries. It's great you should try one.

RE: gear carrier
I have 6 right now and blanks for about 10 more. The on road ones will take a bit I need to get a gear carrier first. As for price $30.00 is what I am asking. I have sold 1 on e-bay and the guy said it fit like a glove. E-mail me and I will get you one.

RE: gear carrier
IMO you would sell alot more at 20-25 dollars because if they cost the same as the fg ones people will go with the proven ones. that being said they do look nice and its a great idea to get rid of the set screw. i would have given then a try but i allready have the fg ones.

RE: gear carrier
Honestly, I think they should be more than the same old stock ones. They are custom and better not having a set screw. Would you pay more for a plain jane paint job over a flashy custom one? Just my thoughts, its not something I plan to make a living on. I just found it nicer for me and wanted to share it with others.

RE: gear carrier
This carrier looks much better than the FG because it fits the layshaft flat spots and doesn't need the grub screws. chevyman_de (HobbyThek guy) says its a pain getting the FG alloy carrier to set right because the grubs are 180 degrees from each other. You tighten one screw, tighten the other and the first one's grip is compromised. You have to crank down one side real tight and then tighten the other just a bit.
If you don't get the right bite from the opposing grub screws the FG alloy carrier will move on the shaft and dig grooves into it. At least one forum member told me he had to cut off an FG alloy carrier that froze up on the layshaft after moving and digging into the shaft.
