HELP? Shipping dimensions, Can the truck be fit?
Hey guys i need some help. First off thanks for all the info so far, i am in the process of trying to work out a deal on a used FG MT but i am overseas in the Marines guarding the American Embassy here in Astana Kazakhstan. We SHIP our mail to a Dulles, VA 20189 Address and it gets here VIA Diplomatic pouch mail but they have size and weight restrictions. Here they are:
SURFACE POUCH Maximum weight is 40 pounds; maximum size is 25 inches in length, with a maximum of 62 inches in length and girth
SO i check on the lenght of the truck and it is
SPECIFICATIONS:
Length..................................720mm
Width...................................510mm
Height...................................385mm
Wheelbase............................480mm
720mm is like 28.3568 inches TO LONG
So do you know of a way that we can break the length of the truck down a little bit, what could we take off the truck to shorten it a few inches?
I figure take off the wheels, body and bumpers? and ship them in a seperate box?
What could i do, help please!!

If you don't mind re-assembly, breaking it down is the only way to go. When assembled, dimensionaly it is what it is.[&:] Unless you can find someone with a shrink ray , but then you would need one as well to blow it back up. [8D] Good luck!!

What about cutting it in half? then weld it back together!...... sorry couldn`t resist, breaking it down is your only option unfortuntly, i understand you don`t want to do that as you don`t have any experiance with it, but i can`t see any other option.

Why dn't you try shipping the MT, diagonaly??? You know, square box has object placed in it corner to corner. You might wind up with a pkg that's 3/4" higher or so but you'd be good otherwise.

So SAY the body is 28" and the truck. IF we were to place it diaginally in a box would it exceed the above dimensions? I suck at math but i think it could work?

if you had a box LxWxH 25"x25"x22" you can fit the whole truck without body in diagonally....
the body will fit in a 25" square box and only need a height of 12" ie LxWxH=25"x25"x12"
Though i would be slightly concerned about damage during shipping with "my" truck sitting this way....
The pics are of a "box" i mocked up...hope this helps....

My GF just informed me that ONE SIDE of the box cannot exceed 17".
So maybe if i pulled the tires off and shipped them seperate, THEN the height of the box might squeeze in 17"?

RE: HELP? Shipping dimensions, Can the truck be fit?
heres a pic with the wheels off.....you are within the 17" limit....so then you would be lookin at something like LxWxH=25"x25"x17"
though i would still be worried about damage to my truck....maybe with a TONNE of foam padding, you might be able to get away without damage to the wheel spindles (dunno what they are called) course these can always be removed...easy to do....and have the truck resting on its hubs...IMO a wee bit safer....but i still suggest a LOT of foam to lessen any blows during shipping....
I think thought it might be best to remove some pieces...6 screws and your front end is off...plus steering linkages... take the roll cage off (rear part as seen in pic- 6 screws) and the rear shocks and you could fit your truck into a box LxWxH - 25"x17"x12" and more importantly...your truck is FLAT...all this is very easy to do and im sure more than enough people here would "help" you put it together if you needed help....
anyway...hope this helps....and hope you get it!!! Way too much fun to not have one at all!!!!

AWESOME it will fit, i think they will ship that as long as we can find a box 25"x25"x17" i should be good to go!
I would definately want the shipper to pull the wheel spindles so it could rest on the hub, good idea with the foam. Man this could work WAHOO, now i'm excited again!

RE: HELP? Shipping dimensions, Can the truck be fit?
ALRIGHT so after further and further investigation the SHIPPING DIMENSIONS HAVE CHANGED lol
Geeze it never ends BUT i think i can make it fit.
The requirements are 50 lbs or less
dimensions cannot exceed 17"x18"x32"
So the length is FINE wahoo! And if we pull off the tires AND the wheel spindles then the WIDTH will be around 15.5" so width were good also! but the HEIGHT cannot exceed 17"

kwakr ~ Thats a nice truck you have there! Thanks again for helping with the dimensions even thought they changed lol
I think i can make it work as long as we can find a box and ship it within the size 17x18x32
