Dying rims
I have s set of HARM rims and gettting some KCR tractor tires from Mike at RCNuts. Since most of my rims are white I though of something different. What's the best dye to use and where can I pick some up? I assume I can just use boiling water in a large container and let them soak for awhile.

USE "RIT" DYE for fabric, just follow the directions on the box, it is pretty simple...... and you can find it almost everywhere...... Walmart/k-mart/shopko/ grocery stores

Rite fabric dye. Can be found at grocery stores or fabric shops.
Comes in a powder form and mixes in very hot or boiling water.
I hope you have a old pan the wife wont need for a while.
I picked up a old used one at a thrift store.

RE: Dying rims
you got to really thoroughly make sure there is no grease residue or tyre glue on the rims. also dont boil the rims!!
if you actually boil them the rim shrinks a little and the squares become too tight.also the reinforceing ring falls off!
another thing, dont plunge in cold water to cure the dye and cool the rim, it too shrinks them.just let them cool slowly in the dye pot.

RE: Dying rims
So basically just boil water, put rims and dye into a container and pour the boiled water over all of them. Mix a bit to get the dye mixed and then just leave for an hour or so?

These are my dye job from this last summer.
The dye goes deep and will last.

I love that floor jack. Sears has them, but red, I've looked All over for a blue one. I've seen green ones on ebay. Could you tell me where you got it, or at least the Brand so I can do a search? Thanks...!

Do they make lime green dye that a person could use?
How well does it work?

They make the basic colors... If you want a lime green, you simply buy green and soak them for less time. For example, I dyed my rims black and they turned a dark purple before the absored enough dye to become black. The box comes with instructions for making different colors.

RE: Dying rims
Can the rims be dyed with tires attached? Will the tires get colored? If so is there a way to do this with the tires on and prevent the dye from coloring them?

yes you can dye the rims wit hthe tires on the rims... Just mke sure there is no glue around the bead of the outer edge of the rim or the dye will not take in that area... in the pic with above with my VTX those tires are glued.. and yes I didn't prep the rims before dying them.. thats why there is a black lip on the outer edge too cover up the places where the dye didn't take
Also the dye will not take too rubber unless it is made of nylon??? it washes off with soap water

RE: Dying rims
Did mine with the tires on with no problems.
Try to put somthing in the holes to keep the water from getting into the foams. (toothpics ?)
It wont stay on the rubber. Just make sure to have VERY clean wheels before dying, the dye wont stick to any oil, even from your hands.
