RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
Mudgy, I've been meaning to ask this for ages but keep forgetting:
What modifications have you done to the engine part from the super duper exhaust?

Funnily enough, mate..bugger all, really.
Machined the flywheel (to get the pulley starter on)
ground the innards only to match the sleeve to the clamshell (nothing special there, really)
New bearings
new seals
decked the clamshell & sleeve (only lost about 0.1mm there, so no major compression boost or anything)
NICE clean fuel
did up the carb
so really, most of the boogie is coming from that baseball bat.
The mower blokes (and me) know it can't last forever like this
never mind. Next heart/lung transplant will come from a bigger donor, I suppose.
I talked to a bloke in a new mower joint just opened, he's got a scale B17 with 2 x monster engines (so he likes what I am doing)
the Stihl Magnum 660 or a 460 has some goey right out of the box...not too heavy either, and that's a complete saw.
Kinda beast that makes the greenies fill their duds.
a bit pricey, but he's agreed to take the parts I don't need like handles, body, bar & chain, etc.
This is off in the distance though.
cheers

That's pretty cool.
I must try to get my head around that tune pipe calculator for my steel frame build.

Here's my initial working out for the car....I originally thought 11 k was it.
Seeing as I can get to 17k, the top speed has changed.
If I change the 20T for a 17T, and the 10T for a 13T in the splitter transmission, i will get 175.67 km/h (109.793mph) out of it.....probably not in 138 feet, though.

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
You gotta remember too that you're driving a 1/4 scale car on a 1/1 scale road......
Any little lump and bump is gonna have a huge impact on the handling.
I can only imagine the damage a 100km/h flip would do to this car.....

Got my pico switch from Kent at Killer RC....thanks Kent.
Stretched out the LED lead, spliced into 3rd channel wiring (chute)
Static tests seem all OK, have to have the engine running to double check all functions work OK
Spektrum failsafes are set already.
This is just an extra insurance policy type of thing.
I want this vehicle to do as it's told, you know.

My building stage is finished.
God, I was looking like someone's Nana on the sewing machine today. But, the chute bag is a goody.

Thanks Lars. And a big thanks to all who have had a look, made a comment, shared the build.
You guys are all inspiring in your own way and in your builds. Don't stop, keep it up.
Seeing the final product does make you a proud acheiver.
Thanks to all.

Might be, but now you're entering the modification stage
Waiting patiently for videos.

God I hope not. I am staying positive, and am convinced there's nothing left to do but drive......hopefully.[&:]

Oh no I meant that in a good way.
Maybe modification was the wrong word.
How about fine-tuning and occasional realigning stage....?

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
I must have jinxed myself...GRRRR![>:][:@][:@]
I get flare outs at WOT now.
I made a new inlet manifold from the same hi temp tube I got for the header pipe...clamps'n'all to stop air leaks.
I have tried new fuel
I have NO (repeat NO) air leaks in the "inlet manifold"
I took the carb off sunday, and there was fibres in the inlet gauze (probably from all the times I've wiped out my fuel jug with paper towel)
I'm gonna take tha carb apart again this weekend, and fudge the lever for the needle & seat. Make the needle open up at the first twitch of a pulse signal.
I reckon the pulse pipe can't cope with fuel delivery at hi RPM and she fades away. Tried needles open, and at STD setting 1 - 1/2 turns open.
Idle and starting never a problem.
Definitely not an ignition problem.
After getting ready to drop this on the black top, how do you reckon my blood pressure is today? Jeez!!![sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Ah mate, I'm OK. This is too heavy to pick up and throw across the room...so I chucked the 3/8" ringy instead. Got a hole in the wall now![X(]
But I feel better[&:]

One of my mate's neighbours has offered a box of Walbro's to pick n choose from....he had a small engine business a few years ago. When he saw what I was up to, he offered the box.
So many carbs....now I have consumer anxiety
Hope to sort this out.
