Choke/Carb question!
Hi i recently changed the carb on my engine, before i would open the choke pull the cord, the engine would fire then i would cloe the choke pull it and the engine starts. Now with the new carb it actuly starts with the choke open and continues running! it still goes with the choke closed as normal but is it ok to idle when the choke is open, i thought it was just meant to fire!
Any help much apreciated

RE: Choke/Carb question!
First off I think that you've got your "open & closed" backwards. Let's get that straight first.
If you take the air filter off and look inside you can see the "butterfly choke plate"
If you can't see past the plate, then the choke is in the "closed position"
Now if the choke is closed and your able to start AND run the engine then the carb needles are set to lean, OR when you changed the carb you didn't get a good seal on the gasket and an air leak is letting it run lean.
I can't rember what the stock position is for the needles but I think that it's 1 1/2 out on the high and 1 1/4 on the low.
Check these things first and get back to us.

RE: Choke/Carb question!
Thanks for your reply 8000ft! help-me i don`t know why you bother replying i stated the problem.
Anyway i feel a bit stupid now after years of owning engine cars, it was something very simple what had happened the choke lever sticks out very slightly more than my old one so when i thought the choke was fully closed it wasn`t, it was hitting the small brake bar which hold the brake rod[sm=red_smile.gif]. So a a quick adjutment of that and it`s fine
