Silly putty
just for the hell of it, i put in some silly putty to try and limp along my truck untill parts arrive. I stripped out an output shaft and wanted an easy way to lock the rear up so that at least i can get power to one wheel. After some discussions on earlier posts and forums, silly putty was one of those things thrown out there that may work. At first it worked well bit after 2 minutes, i guess the putty was pushed aside and allowed the rear to spin up again. I wish there was a way to make some covers that you can put in there that bind the gears together and when you want it freed up, you just pull them out.

RE: Silly putty
you could always design a spool for me. hahah. I hate being down for parts. You would think with all the clones out there along with duratrax, there should be tons of parts everywhere.

RE: Silly putty
I don't think thick oil or grease will help. there is no resistance to that ouput shaft so it will always spin. I don't want to get a locked diff or limited slip. 1. i don't want to spend that kind of money and 2. I use the truck to just drive around with some mild bashing. I was just looking for a quick fix untill the parts came in. i will try big boys r/c though. they may have what i need.
thanks guys

With a 1/5? No way. The engines have so much torque, there is no way super glue will hold. Shoo glue, maybe, since it is a flexible glue, but not super glue. It's simply too brittle.

RE: Silly putty
Do you seriously believe locktite can do the trick? No way buddy. It's for securing screws. There is no way you can lock a diff with it.
Would axle grease work?

RE: Silly putty
I tried that link and actually called them before i ordered them to see if they were in stock. Not in stock!!! crazy. As far as the locktight goes, would i just put it on the spline and then slip it into the diff gear and let it dry?
Never used the stuff so i am unfamiliar with its strenght.
thanks for all the help so far, you guys are great.

RE: Silly putty
Motors, if you broke it, simply use some JB Weld. Mix it, make sure to mix it properly, apply some on the spline, stick it in, and let it dry for the day. Once you do this, it's not going to move again. The JB weld is very strong. It may be temporary, but I can assure you it will hold, and it won't strip again.
As for locktite, I don't know who that guy is trying to kid, but it isn't going to cut it. I thought the idea of super glue was crazy, but then someone walks in, and suggests using locktite.
Anyways, just use JB weld.

RE: Silly putty
There's different stregth and thickness to locktite, I would try the Red stuff, it locks and needs heat to remove. The blue stuff would just break loose and the Green is supposed to be permanent. Sorry I don't know bottle #'s and sometimes it is hard to see the liquid color through the bottle but if you read the back you will figure it out. Give it 24 hr's to dry though or you could just keep breaking it loose.

RE: Silly putty
I guarentee you, red locktite WILL NOT hold. The only thing you are going to end up doing, is getting crap in there. Then you can't use JB weld, because it won't stick
