A deductible is what you are liable for when you make a claim. Say you have a fire and you can prove that $10,000 worth of stuff was destroyed and your deductable was $500.00 . The insurance company would only supply a check for $9,500 . Generally deductables for home owners is only $500. The higher the deductable the lower the cost of the insurance is. The lower deductable would mean higher insurance cost. A $5000 homeowners policy is useless.[]

Well my dad has a huge mac tool set in the garage worth more than any of my cars, plus the sound system, so ma has a high deductible for the equipment!

so that means anything stolen from our garage is part of that so......

We tried the manufacturer retail, it goes by how much i pay!

Well i dunno, all i know is that I'm gonna be a baja owner soon!

Deductables (homeowners/auto) do not go up because you have tools or a radio. As long as you have proof of ownership, ie; purchase receipts, installation receipts and in some cases photos then your covered.
This story is getting a little carried away.

the way most deductiables work is a certain precentage of total coverage example 100,000 of coverage with a 1 precent deductiable would be 1000.00 thats usally the way they work it depends on th amount of coverage . claiming on insurance with out doing your home work wil end up costing you in the end! they will possiably raise your rates now .best of luck to you sorry for loses.[&o]

The higher the deductible the less you have to pay per year in premiums. I have a $2500 deductible. I figure that if the damage done to my home or if something is stolen that is less than $2500, it isn't worth filing a claim over. I can cover that dollar amount myself. There is also extended coverages for jewelry, etc that people can add on. People generally aren't assigned a deductible, you get to choose the deductible you prefer to pay if you ever need to file a claim.

Holy buncha BS in this story and the other thread.

5K deductible my butt. Who do they have for home insurance "Vinney and Snakes Mafia Insurance Company"?

Kids like this and their BS stories are why a lot of people stopped coming to RCU.
