Has anyone used the Elcon diff brake yet? Looks sweet....
It looks like it would be very effective, though probably hard on brake pads!

it was just released this week. It will probably be tested at the races Elcon is going to this week-end. It is supposed to work well with the alloy drive train.

Just enquired to tornado the supplier of eclon products in the UK, wanted to know price, seems a bit exspensive, plus maybe problems....

The brake itself is £69.24 and the mounting brackets £9.21 – plus shipping.

This is a new product and we are learning about it all the time. So far we’ve found:

When you fit 18550 we have found there is a conflict on the fuel return outlet on the Zenoah carburetor.

This return outlet is pressed in very heavy but CAN be moved. You have to be “careful" but you can turn it. We have done this 5 times now, all 5 times it was successful.

1) Disassemble the carb

2) Fix the fuel outlet in a vice.

3) Turn the carb by hand.

For drivers who have already our small alloy engine mount (#13601). The rear hole for the bolt must be drilled deeper so the bolt can go in by 5mm. (Otherwise the diff-brake cannot move free)

So looks like in my eyes major problems if you hve to take the carb off, you would of thought Eclon would of noticed this, oh well hope the info helps.

Looks like another option, but when locked the dif action would still send you to a fishtail or even a spin..... which IMO makes it slightly better than the FG layshaft tuning brake kit only because it takes the braking force off of the layshaft pinion. I like the looks, but cable or hydro brakes are probably going to perform better for track drivers.

It works excellent, it is very similair to the friedel brake I have. This brake type has loads more braking power.
For track cars deffinately brakes on wheelpads are better but for off-roading this is an excellent brake.
It is also cheaper then the brakes at the wheels.

so the people who have this did you have to move your carb? i`m wondering wether tornado got it wrong and havn`t used the right plates, because on the Eclon site it says there`s a plate for the FG drive chain and one for the Eclon drive train. But in the email they didn`t ask what drive train i have! Just says mounting brackets are these one of the same thing? because they didn`t specify.

I've had several combinations except for the hydro's on both my FG's. I found with the Marder the rear cable brakes had a few issues.

1. Harder to take apart the rear end
2. If you have a tunned pipe it will get damaged since the cable holders are on the gear plate. The FG pipe was pretty banged up and my Samba pipe was an older model causing me to lift up the rear or the roll cage so I can mount the wing!
3. Sometimes the bolts that hold the brake pads get bent, if you're not carefull they will snap and stay in the brake housing. Then you have to try and drill and re-tap it!!



In the Leopard Race you have the larger epoxy disk. It works great and for the price I may go to the steel conversion as well.

My opinion is to go with brakes in the front, cable, hydros, whatever you can afford and do the big steel or epoxy disk in the rear!!

After reading went to work, the fuel line can be turned with care without taking off the carb. Dont use force, use your mind..

The brake shoes need the extra 5mm of the small engine mount or else it can't move free, think a special bolt?

On top the stainless Elcon plate needs 1 more mm to fit exactly on the right place.

The braking rod from the servo is a nice problem, a nice picture would do nice from Elcon.


Mailed to Elcon today, think for its price it should fit like a glove without having to make some modifications.[>:]

I understand that they are working on a solution for these problems so i will keep you all posted.

Small Engine mount????

Don't you mean the LARGE Engine mount?
The one on the left side of the car.

Smal engine mount is totally hidden undernath the right side of the engine.

Nope, it runs into this bolt..[] and the alloy house..[>:] The angle adjustment of the fuel line was no problem.

[/quote What's the deal on these brakes? Do they stop the truck or buggy in a straight line on & off road? And with in a short distance also are they working on another version so that you would not have to do those mods to make it fit? Thanks for your reply's

got to say used mine for the last 6 months and its the dogs,really strong brake,i lost the front hydros during a race and the rear brake is just as efficent to slow down the car,it kills the speed in no time ,i fully am using it this year ,and your worried about pads theres a new set they are bringing out which helps even more but there cheap aswell,brilliant for off road
