Default HPI Baja 5B SS

After finding out about the Baja 5T, I came across this, the Baja 5B SS. It is already out in Asia, and seems to come with a lot more features that the RTR version. Here are the pics:

http://rcforum.co.kr/news/entry/Shiz...HPI-Baja-5B-SS

It has many new features, including:

- Gold Anodizing (also found on the HPI Firestorm - Could this be HPI's new theme colour to replace purple?)
- New 26cc Engine (RTR Fuelie engine is 23cc)
- Heavy-Duty Dogbones
- Sway Bars - Front & Rear (now available from HPI as an assessory for the 5B RTR)
- Aluminium Tuned Pipe Set (now available from HPI as an assessory for the 5B RTR)
- 8000RPM Clutch Spring - Red (now available from HPI as an assessory for the 5B RTR)
- Hi-Response Clutch Shoe / Spring Set (now available from HPI as an assessory for the 5B RTR)
- Clear Body (now available from HPI as an assessory for the 5B RTR)

It looks like a very nice package to me, and I will defilately look into buying it if I have the money (depends on how the 5T turns out).

I believe the shocks are the same, just anodized in Orange.

I found the pricing today, and according to those pictures I linked to, the Baja 5B SS in Japan costs €915 or $1,250 without electronics.

On that one pics it says JY148,000 which =1,242.91 USD..I still would rather see a kit form were you can add your own engine/pipe/body/radio....for less...

HPI would'nt spend all this time designing new shocks just to put a bigger shaft in them and call it done....

Hathi, don't assume they did more than that. If you've got actual info/proof, please share it with us.
I'm pretty sure he's just hoping more so that has any actual info to provide us with.
That's the main thing that I find wrong with the shocks, other than possible leaking. They may have redesigned the seal design, but that's probably just about it.

The screw thing at the bottom is aluminum now. I guess different seals as well. But other than that, I see no change(other than anodizing) from the 5B shock, besides of course the shaft. But the shaft is what gave me/us the most problems, so the fact they changed that makes me happy.
Oh, and of course the C-clip. Hopefully it uses a stronger setup, such as a nut and washer.

i reackon the purple looks better , and a new 26cc motor? thats a little better but come on when are they gonna learn. we want 30cc engines in these beasts or at least i do as standard. im hopeing to get a 30.5cc head kit in mine soon , i know that puting a pipe on the stock 23 will improve it . but hey no body can argue with a 30cc motor

I saw that LargeScaleRC.com has the Baja 5b with the 30.5cc. They are installing the bigger motors in their shop, so you can buy one with a 30.5cc already installed. Very cool, guys!!! Keep up the good work.

LargeScale probably removed the stock 23cc engine and dropped in a 30.5cc. I wonder if they will charge the full cost of the Baja plus the full cost of the 30.5cc engine to do this in-house swap?

HobbyThek has an option where they will do a similar swap on FG or Carson (same as Duratrax/Smartech/XTM) but they do not charge full price for car and new engine. The price is somewhat less (an upgrade price) because HobbyThek sells the 23cc engine to customers who want a stock engine so they make back their money. One HobbyThek employee (chevyman_de) who used to participate a lot on this forum told me that HobbyThek sells off the stock 23cc engines from upgrades very quickly.

DDM also has a great selection of engines, and top end kits/cranks to choose from. The stock 23cc cases can use the stroke crank and top end. You don't have to buy a complete engine to upgrade.

Does anybody know exactly what is different about the shock shafts? I hope they are bigger in outside diameter. The orgional ones bend way too easily. The length/diameter ratio is waaaaaay too long IMO.

ES, I believe they only increased the outside diameter, not the length.
From what it seems, they seem to be close, if not, the size of phatdad shock shafts.
Personally, I'd just buy some phatdad shock shafts, and put them on my stockers, then remove the anodizing on my shock caps and adjusters, and polish them.
Now if the bottom screw thing is aluminum as well, and the seals are improved, then I'm interested.

Has anyone even tried sticking these into the stock shock tubes themselves? The RCD shock parts?for only 15.99 that would be a deal if they just screwed right into the stock baja shock bodies...

These are replacement shock shaft for the RC4WD billet shocks. They will not fit the stock shocks. Please choose front or rear.

I will bet money on it that tower will be raising their price on that as soon as they get more info. Keep an eye on it as of 9/14/07 it is 919. Lets see what they jump it to when they get them(just like they always do).

Yeah they will raise it for sure, depends also if they toss them discounts out, they are good at jacking up enough to soak the discount.
