Default Stupid question - but hear me out

As my first large scale, I want to get an MT. Heres the thing, I can get a Smartech one for $500, or I can get an FG one for $1300.

This is going to sound stupid, but what is the difference? OTher than a slightly larger engine, what am I getting for the extra money if I get the FG?

see thats the thing, how is it built better, all I can notice from pictures is that it has a TVP chassis, which I know is superior. But is it worth paying more than double the smartech one?

Better quality in the products, build, and overall design and packaging I'm sure. I've never even been near a 5th scale but it all applies.

get the Smartech. Then you will have saved money up front, for upgrades down the the road.

The HPI Baja isn't perfect. It has it's weaknesses too (weak shock shafts, bad tires). With that said, it is a well-engineered machine though. The thing is amazing.

I have the Baja and the Firehammer MT (smartech). The upgrades you really need to make the Smartech more bulletproof are the steel pinion ($40), better radio system (get a Spektrum DX3 or some sort of 2.4), tuned pipe ($170), and an alloy diff housing ($50). I love my FHMT and I love my Baja. The FHMT will go through anything.

As for the FG MT, it's an awesome truck. I've never owned one, but watching videos of them they are pretty sweet. Is the $1300 a package deal with radio and some extras?

Having driven a FG MT that was set up nicely as my first introduction into large scale............ I would not accept anything less or an inferior vehicle no matter what the "savings" was initialy.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Advice you can bank on.

I don't think I could ever sell my truck, it would be like cutting my leg off, I'd miss it too much.

i own a baja, used to own 2 fg trucks, if i where you, i would get the clone, like hellya said, with the 800 bones you save you can add a *****load of needed upgrades. The same upgrades that will be needed on the fg that you will have spent more for.
If just going largescale is what you want, get an hpi baja, if mt is what you want, well, id get the clone and hop it up.

99.9% of all 'clone' stock parts can be had from any Duratrax dealer in the US (there are tons), Tower Hobbies using Firehammer MT parts or Hobby People using XTM Grizzly parts.
