Default Ball Drive Set Questions

After all of the pain of having dogbones snap and outdrives fall out, I'm thinking about the Carson Ball Drive Set for my Firehammer MT.

[link=http://www.rc-car-online-shop.de/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&artnum=carson_306007&wkid=27775&ls=e&nocache=1188063607-15388]Ball Drive Set[/link]

Does anyone have any information on this? Is it that much better than the normal dogbone outdrive set up found on the Smartech's and FG's? How is it to maintain these?

Thanks!

I have that same set on my firehammers and I never turned back and I got mine from here http://www.fg-hopups.com/index.html But those are not a direct fit..you will need FG diff bevel gears to make them work which are 90.00[:'(], your better off buying the 8484 or is it the 8485 that come with everything you need...a new alloy diff and the gears complete.... Look for the thread here on the forum that explains this swap

LOL, didn't know how to phrase it, lube balls wasn't any better!

I got the Carson one, but I believe the FG comes with the balls as well. The outdrives are cupped for 3 balls on each end. The balls basically sit in each end of the drive shaft. Nice and smooth. Since boots go over the outdrives, I wasn't sure if I was to put grease in there to hold grease in or just to keep the crap out and keep the balls dry.

Oh I did, believe me, I put some more in there after the pics. You don't want your balls too greasy for pictures!

Thats the same set I have, but the FG version if memory serves.

Get some small zip ties and tie down the small end onto your drive shaft of those rubber boots. this will help keep them from slipping away from the cups.

keep your balls well lubricated and the ball sheath intact , or major friction and heat build up will occur
