its easy....
castor oil=old school...decent lube properties....all ya had to use back in the day
synthetic=new school...excellent lube properties at lower ratio's....top of line today

My understanding is that castor oils performs better at high temps, and in lean running conditions, this is because at high temps castor oil leaves a residue that is still a good lubricant, but synthetics boil off leaving the surfaces unprotected, however this does mean that the engine etc cokes up more using castor oils.

In practice I use castor oil in a high demand applications such as 4wd, but use synthetics for 2wd.

Castor oil is made from castor nut (somekind of plant), it is thicker than synthetic oil. Castor oil was originally made for 2 stroke motor, because of its thickness.

Synthetic oil is produced by synthesis of oil (dont know what that really means). synthetic oil originally was made for automobile with 4 stroke motor. Since technology is more advance today, people have been able to create a thicker synthetic oil, thus also good for 2 stroke.

For your baja, i would recommend use synthetic.

Castrols most popular 2 stroke racing oils A747 and the replacement XR77 actually uses a Mix of Castor and Synthetic oils.

A747 had the disadvantage, that in wet weather(Rain) the Castor oil could turn to "mayonaise" in the carb when driving.... [:'(] It also had some problems at freezing temps.
Those are solved with the XR77. Both oils are best for engines going faster than 14K RPM. Both oils are among the most popular for onroad racers in Europe.

The greatest advantage of the Castor based and castor/synt based are in hard tuned 23cc onroad engines, that easily revs up to 21K-22K rpm

Tuners like Alro Racing and Oddified recommends the Castrol A747 or XR77 for their engines.

From what I understand, the Castor Oil is "attracted" to hot spots, not forced away, making it a better choice in some high power applications than "ordinary"(synth and non-synth) oil.

a747 is used by most racers with tuned high rpm motors in the uk,off road and onroad.

Look for Klotz Super Techniplate. It is 80% synthetic and 20% Castor oil. Klotz has been formulating high quality racing oils for many years. This is the only thing we use at www.largescalerc.com.
